I have about 43 VCD's with music videos, right now they are in a .DAT format so i can play them on the DVD.. when i take my laptop out camping or fishing and wanna watch a few videos, i have to lug around 43 CD's in there cases (so i know whats on them).... IS there anyway to crunch them onto fewer CD's... maybe burn it to DVD or something.. Just a pain in the butt to lug around all those CDs..

    Thanks,
    Zinc.

My advice would be to dump them all on the HDD either as DAT's or recompressing to something else. No carrying around any discs and since the optical drive isn't spinning I would assume that the battery would last longer.

To put them on DVD for a laptop, you can just rip the DAT's from the VCD's to mpg's using VCDGear, ISOBuster or similar and then burn as data. If you also want it to work on regular standalones then you need to re-encode the audio and author. TMPGEnc DVD Author with the AC3 plugin is probably the easiest way to do that.

But when i goto partys everyone wants me to bring my 43 VCD's, so i cant just dump them to my HHD. They need to be portiable to carry where ever i go.. if i dump them to my HDD then every has to gater around a laptop. everyone wants to see them on the BIG screen TV..

I hope that was understandable, hehe..

    thanks again..

Well that wasn't the scenario in the original post. I covered converting to DVD anyway though.

You could always play them off of your HDD whilst camping/fishing and bring the discs to parties.
