TDK is ok media but not the best, i also think that there are different types of TDK's too.

if u go and put a blank disk in and open decrypter in ISO read mode what does ur DISK ID say

    Hi firks123
Just to add to 300bowler's good advice. TDK uses different manufacturers - most not that good.
The one's you picked up were made by one of the biggest problem causers CMC.
They can be hit or miss when it comes to burned - try another one and do a simulation again. That may fail too.
It's also probably why you receive this error: Illegal disc
Only thing really wrong in the log.

I would try and exchange the ones you bought from CompUSA for the
    one's 300bowler recommended. Good stuff.

    Keep us posted.

Thanks guys ...I think the problem is deeper than the Disc quality. I ran the Nero Info tool and this is what my output looks like......

If you notice none of the DVD functionality are clicked. This makes me think that I am missing some drivers or the configuration is not right.

    Any inputs??

Also I noticed in the Nero InfoTool that under
MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9 USB Device, it just shows Autorun ON and does not show DMA on.
Might that be any issue? IF yes how do I change the setting? Pls advise.

I have a built in DVD ROM and CD RW, under which it does show both DMA on and Autorun ON.

    @firks123
DMA mode is for your internal drives. The mad dog is an external drive transfering through a 2.0 usb port.

This time you get this error Power calibration error
One reason for this error is media and or not up to date firmware.
Your firmware is up to date the media you tried in this is iffy - AML.
You also have this - SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND which leans me more to media again. Switch the media 1st. To be safe look for 8x rated media in the brands 300bowler recommends.

The brands you have tried can be hit or miss - not always reliable.

Try the different media and keep us posted!

Dang! Ok now we have a different error - media you using is good - made by Taiyo Yuden - but looks like the 16x rated ones throw out a different error Reset occurred .
This new error is something hanging up the drive. Try a simulation again with all programs running stopped. Look in your system tray (bottom right hand side) and make sure programs running on start up are shut down also including virus, spyware, firewall (disconnect from the internet).
Do you have another 2.0 port you can use in this pc? If you have any external devices attached - disconnect them.
have you ever been able to burn w/ this burner in this laptop (think it's a laptop) & have your tried this burner in another pc?
Hopefully we can resolve this soon (need to leave some hair:)

    Thanks bud!
You're right this is a Laptop and I have AV and Firewall both running on my system. I also am using a USB hub o connect to the burner, external harddrive, printer and Fax. Let me try to follow what you advised and see. Keep you posted.

Ok - may have been a step in the right direction - simualtion worked whereas it didn't before but the actually burn still fails with the reset occured

So you disconnected the other external devices right?
Did you try another usb port?

Have you ever been able to burn w/ this drive on this laptop? If so what's changed since then. Looking like a possible driver conflict.
How about another pc - does this burner work w/ Nero on another pc?

What are you trying to burn? To see if the conflict w/ Nero trying another would be a good idea. There are some free ones depending on what you are trying to burn.

Also check your aspi. Go to NeroToolKit>InfoTool>aspi tab. See if anything shows as corrupt. If you see 'no system aspi installed' that's okay - just looking here to see if you do have any & they are working properly. One you will have is Nero's.

Hi! Binkie .. here are the answers to your question..

So you disconnected the other external devices right? [bold]YES [/bold]
Did you try another usb port? [bold]YES [/bold]

Have you ever been able to burn w/ this drive on this laptop? [bold]YES using an Apple Mac. I have never been successful burning a DVD with this one althought I have had suvccess with CD.[/bold]

If so what's changed since then. Looking like a possible driver conflict.
[bold] I got a newer computer and connected the burner and all the other devices to it pretty much the same way as the previous one. I was able to burn using the previous comp. One thing I must add is that when I connected the various external devices, I used the printer CD to install the printer and the external drive CD to install it. However I have lost the MAD DOG install CD, so never used that. However when I connected it to my ocmputer it was able to recognize. It also burns CD ...but not DVD [/bold]

How about another pc - does this burner work w/ Nero on another pc?
    [bold]YES [/bold]

What are you trying to burn? [bold]A Personal DVD that i created using DVD Shrink [/bold]

To see if the conflict w/ Nero trying another would be a good idea. There are some free ones depending on what you are trying to burn.
    [bold] pls advise[/bold]

Also check your aspi. Go to NeroToolKit>InfoTool>aspi tab. See if anything shows as corrupt. If you see 'no system aspi installed' that's okay - just looking here to see if you do have any & they are working properly. One you will have is Nero's.

ok fisks let's try and burn that iso file w/ imgburn - free. Looks like the file is already an iso but if not then 1st create an iso from the files video_ts folder (1st link)
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/imgtoo...
    Link for imgburn:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm

Or you can use dvd decrypter (same developer):
    http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
Shrink will autoburn with decrypter too if you pick that option under 'select back up target'. Will autoburn w/ imgburn I just need to find the link to show how to set it up.

Now for the aspi - how did you fix those 2 corrupt ones?

Hiya Binkie .... I downloaded the Burn4Free Sowftware and was able to successfully burn the DVD on a COMPUSA disk!! However, this disk does not play in the DVD player ...says Disk Error :-(

    To fix the ASPI ..
I ran dumpASPI and then instASPI.
