help dropping size of file

    i am trying to drop the size of a converted dvd rip to a divx/xvid to size of 700 to 800 mb, i am a newbie, if this is already a question or in the wrong place i apologize. can anyone help. i have the original .vob file from the dvd & a file converted from the rip(.vob) to xvid avi using total video converter, but the size is still 1.5gb, can someone tell me where i went wrong, thanks, all help greatly appreciated

    What I would recommend is to use dvdshrink to backup your vob's into an ISO. Next use the free fairuse wizard lite to convert that ISO into an xvid. with fairuse wizard the default size of the finished video is always going to be 700mb.

    With total video converter, to get a reduce size file you are going to have to use a bitrate calculater and adjust the audio and video bitrate so you get the desired size you want.

    Another thing you can do is use the free avidemux to further reduce your 1.5gb xvid to a lower size. You can configure the xvid encoder so it can give you a fixed sized.
