I have an external DVD Burner (Pioneer 110D-Galaxy Metal Gear Box) and for some reason when I plug it in, it keeps saying device not recognized.
This is a USB 2.0 device, I had to get a BusLink USB 2.0 card for this in order for it to work properly. That being said, the drivers for the PCMCIA card are installed correctly but will not register the driver(s) for the burner.
I have tried to download a driver from Pioneer but it won't work either.
I am extremely fustrated about this.
    Someone please HELP!!!

Do other usb devices work correctly via the pcmcia card port?

Try this if you already haven't.
Uninstall the pcmcia card via device manager, restart, and then reinstall the pcmcia card.

    I've done this several times.
When I have downloaded the drivers for the burner it says either application not found or cannot find divice.
The burner supposedly can run by itself/it came w/ a driver cd but it is for win98 only - I am running off WinXP Pro

    Has it ever worked?

Is it recognized if you plug it into a usb1 port?

when i first got the burner, i thought my laptop had the high speed usb port-was wrong. went on here and found out i needed to get a PCMCIA card for the laptop to run high speed devices (such as burners). Did that - installed it today. Other items will work on it.I have plugged it into the USB card like I am supposed to and I get a message each time stating there is an unknown device. so I click on the balloon and it tells me there is no driver installed for the device (burner). then i try to install the driver for it and nothing. error message after error message. truly fustrating.

Do you get the same message when plugging into one of the slow speed usb1 ports on the laptop?

if I plug it in to the slow ports, it tells me the device isnt a high speed device and to install a high speed usb port.
{This device cannot start. (Code 10)} <---- I've looked up this code/its because it is plugged into a slow speed, hot high speed 2.0 device.
I've tried several times to download the firmware for this device and it wont download.

I assume you're clicking the Update Driver button in Device Manager and after doing so nothing happens. Is this correct? I think the problem is probably with the external enclosure. Do you have access to someone else's computer where you could plug in the external burner to see if it is recognized? The drivers for these things are pretty generic but it could definitely be a comm conflict between the PCMCIA controller and the external enclosure chipset. Do you have another external enclosure you can put the burner in to see if the external enclosure is the problem? However the fact that it won't startup under a USB1 port gives me pause as well. Normally you get the slow speed port message but the device is recognized and works, albeit very slowly. I'm still betting on a wonky external enclosure. If the same thing happens on another computer, it's probably the external enclosure. I use Plumax and Bytecc enclosures. I have no experience with this Galaxy Metal Gear thing.

I have tried this on another laptop. same thing.
It recognized the device but will not perform because it needs a high speed port.
    this is aggrivating.

Have you tried updating the driver for the PCMCIA card with Device Manager? I have a cheapo 2-year-old IOMagic PCMCIA card that I use with an older laptop and an external burner without problems so I see no reason why this Buslink card shouldn't work out of hand. How old is the laptop?
