We need some help. Our PC DVE player will play DVDs like Friends and The Avengers TV series but not movie DVDs- it is really frustrating as we can't pinpoint the problem.
It will sometimes play DVDs but they will have stop and start moments- generally though when we try and open a movie DVD it just tells us "no disk in drive"
    Any ideas

what is the make & model of your drive it's sounds like you may need your firmware updated but please include other info like pc stats program used to view the movies and is it a copy or the original as any one of these or a list of other things could be causing problems please help us to help you

    Thanks for your reply.
It is a LG DVD player - I have no idea how to find the model number though? if you let me know I'll try and locate it.
We use PowerDVD to view the DVDs. ALl the DVDs we try to view are originals.

We are a bit puzzled as it will sometimes play a DVD but will often jump and stick at the start (the little green light goes solid and doesn't flicker) but part way through will then play. The problem seems to be getting worse though and now it won;t generally play any movie DVDs- will always however play the TV series.

keeping in mind that I'm just a newb but it sounds like your drive is not recognizing certain types of media or copy right protection you are saying that your pc has a lg dvd drive installed and this is what you are watching them on right. from what I have heard the tv series have little to no protection. but please give the make & model # of the pc dvd rom firmware still sounds like a solution to me but the senior members will avoid the thread if they don't get the info they need to help. case if it sounds like you might be already confused they don't want to worsen the sit.

    hi

ok use nero info tool to see what the drives are and also it will tell you if dma is enabled and if your aspi layer is working! just flick through the tabs and report back here!

also i have heard of dvd43 running in the background may? help as it takes out alot of copy protection! i know it shouldnt be needed but it may help? its a free app...

also firmware may be a good idea as mentioned i think above?
