I am tring to back up Finding Neverland (store bought) I am useing DVD Decrypter, DVD shrink with Nero Burn engine. I use DVD decrypter then DVD Shrink and then burn the DVD with Nero 6. The DVD will Play on my computer but not my new (3 month) DVD player. i am using Sony DVD-R. The thing that gets me is a friend of mine made a backup on his computer useing one of my Sony DVD-R and it works fine. I am useing a Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631 16x dual layer. Please help this is my first time trying to back up a DVD.
hi did you both use the same apps? and versions? also did you watch your friend do it? and you used same process? as it can be done differently! for same output... did you try burning with dvd decrypter after shrink?
Hummhhh... this is kind of odd, perhaps you might need to post your Nero's error log like others have and hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to cheer you up. I think your burner may be in PIO mode instead of DMA since your friend is able to back up a successful backed up. Well, it's worth to check your burner's DMA settings anyway. Here's how to check them out: To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager 1. Go to "My Computer, ""System Tools," "View System Information," then System Properties, "Hardware," Then Open Device Manager 2. Double-click IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels. 3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your burner is connected and select Properties. Now click the Advanced Settings tab. 4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if available if the current setting says, "PIO Only." If the drop-down box already says, "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must "toggle" the settings. That is, change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click "OK". Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to "DMA if available". OPTION: Right-click the burner and select "Uninstall" and then "OK" all prompts until the PC reboots. Upon rebooting, the PC should "find" your burner and reinstall it setting it by "Default" to DMA. What brand is your stand alone dvd player? You said it's only 3 months old, this should be able to handle any DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW media easily. How fast is your burning speed when you're backing up? Try to go at lower speed with other good quality media such as "TY, MAXELL, FUJI and VERBATIM" and see what's the result. I don't use Nero to back up my movies (for DATA back up only for me,) I only used DVD Shrink then burn with DVD Decrypter - this makes more sense to me. Other than that, I've used InterVideo Dvd Copy 3 with either DVD43 or DVDIdle Pro running in the background. So far, every back up of mine has been successfully.
