Hope this is not a double post. I am burning +R.

I have a Dynex DX DVDRW8 internal and Sony DRX 530 UL on Dell Dimensions 8200. No problem with Sony. Using Nero, Dynex will burn but will not mount and read after burning. Same disc is readable in Sony having burned in Dynex. Says ASPI not installed.

I am retired and not a computer geek. I use these burners to archive photos. Creaky you have helped me in the past but I guess I never solved this problem when I installed the two burners.

Yup it is :) Closed your other one: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/202000

and looking at the pic. DMA is not on for your Dynex drive. You should enable it.

Now your saying you can burn a DVD in your Dynex. It will play on your Sony (external) burner, but won't play on your Dynex?

    Thank you for responding.

How do I get DMA on? I searched here and google yesterday and found nothing.

Yes I can burn with Nero on Dynex. After burning Dynex will not mount and read the disc burned on Dynex buy Sony will.

How do I know if drivers on Dynex are up to date and if not where do I download?

Rotary, thank you very much for responding. I followed the steps you outlined and Dynex is the slave or secondary channel. Here is picture of setup. I can change to DMA but the line below stays at PIO whatever.

Also I just recorded a disc in dynex drive using Sonic RecordNow. It recorded and subsequently mounted and read the disc after recording. Also, the driver for Dynex is microsoft 2001. Should I update and how? Should I sign up for auto driver updates and how?

    hi

not sure why you got PIO but this is usaully enabled when there is 6 consec errors with the drive!

firmware isnt window xp, it a file from the maker of the drive that updates the reading of new discs etc or bug fixes etc for the drive hardware only...

ok first go back to the secondary ide controller and right click on it and uninstall that sucker and reboot your pc! this will load the drivers back in on bootup you will see it on screen for xp down by the clock! then check the DMA settings again!

tell me though did you install this drive yourself? if so did you set the master and slave jumpers on the back of *EACH* drive on the same ide cable (ie the 2 burners) right?

OK rotary. Thanks again. I do not have time now to do what you said. It's Father's Day and we are off to church then out to dinner with our daughter. I will get back to this early evening today. Again thank you.

Yes we did set the primary and slave thing when we installed Dynex last fall. At first we had it primary then we changed it to slave or secondary. My Dell 8200 has two CD drives. It came with CD ROM in the first slot. That is where we installed the Dynex. And CD/RW was installed in the second slot and we left it there but made it primary and Dynex slave.

Hi again. Quick reply as we are off again. Computer came with Roxio bundled and I add/removed it and I think did some manual file removal as well but maybe I just procrastinated about the manual removal.

    Be back later.

umm? doesnt sound good manual file removal? you sure they were roxio files????

but there is an app called roxio zapper to get rid of it!

so you put nero on yourself then?

You need to uninstall the drive and reboot. Your O/S will reinstall it.

It could be the booktype selected when burning w/ Nero. I've never had a problem or had to change booktypes, but some have. If you can use Sonic but not Nero, then the problem is with Nero. A setting in Nero.

That's the application I used. Roxio zapper, and I had to email roxio to get it. Yes I installed Nero. It was bundled with the Dynex DX DVDRW8 internal burner that I purchased from Best Buy. The instrustions for installing said that the correct drivers would be loaded when we installed.

Also, you said that you found several drive errors. On my system or others on the internet who are having problems.

Just got home from Father's Day celebration. It is now 7:53 eastern daylight saving time.

This version of Nero is not a version I purchased. It came bundled with the Dynex DX DVDRW8 that I purchased late last fall. We were in FL all winter and I did not use the Dynex burner very much after installation using instead my Dell 8500 laptop in FL that I purchased with a DVD burner. It uses Roxio and I added Sonic RecordNow. I used both all winter on the laptop without any problems.

Also, Flip, I do not know what you mean by booktype. I was thinking about add/removing Nero and reinstalling and if that did not work to just forget Nero and use Sonic Record Now. Or I could put all the files in shared documents and pick them up on the laptop and burn from there. My desktop and laptop are networked. But that seems like a lot of hassle and I would like to have two working burners on desktop so that I can burn duplicates of my photos.
