    Hello
Just recently purchased an Iomega super DVD burner (lite-on SOHW 1673), dvd decrypter and DVDX Platinum. Tried burning a couple DVDs and have two big issues.

    1. the read rate is abysmally slow. the original version of the firmware with the burner was js01 and i just upgraded it to js05 and still only get 1.9x speeds (read) .. this took 2:45 for house of flying daggers!

    2. After finally getting the files to aan empty folder.. neither dvd decrypter or dvdcopy platinum see the files in that directory. it is as if the folder is empty.the original rip that I did was in file mode and not in iso mode..

    my pc specs are
    p4 2.4
    512 ram
external lite-on usb 2.0 with JS05 firmware update..

any suggestions welcome so I dont gouge my eyes out with a spoon!
    thanks

    hi

i would use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter combo for most dvd's

did you rip with dvd decrypter? thats a long time that? i know plextors have a read fixing on the drive to 2x but didnt know about liteon?

to be honest i would never use dvdxcopy plat, are you useing windows xp on ntfs file system, if so rip in iso read mode, then load to dvd shrink for compresing or just grabbing main movie

i used dvd decrypter to rip the disc.. however I had already tried to to rip it in iso mode and the burning software (dvdxplat) wasnt seeing the files in the directory.. it just looked empty when i pulled it up through the program even though the files are there.. i read about firmware locks at 2x....anyway to get around that? and will dvdshrink allow me to burn an iso of the whole disk...menus and all?
    thanks in advance

No, you can burn with Decrypter, follow what Rotary said.

I tried running the omnipatcher from the link u gave.. didnt work to improve speed beyond .6x...can u burn from shrink without decrypting? cuz im still getting the 'unabletocreatevob' error from dvdxplatinum.. not sure what that is about either... at least it sees the files now where before it didnt..
soon im gonna look like depp in once upon a time in mexico...

You will probably have to crossflash your drive to some modified(hacked) lite-on firmware (probably useing omnipatcher) to get around the riplock. Post a thread on cd freaks explaining your situation and someone can probably point you in the right direction. There's some folk there that really know their $hit about lite-on drives and rebadged liteys. Give them a little time to get back with you.

Go to dvddecrypter.com web page. There I think you'll get more help also.

Sounds like you are in PIO mode. If you need to get back to DMA (or at least check on it) check out Bbmayo's link in my sig.

following what squizzle said...start - control panel - system - hardware tab - device manager - look for ide ' atapi , primary of secondary - that's where to change it to DMA. Note that you may have trouble with this and might have to uninstall in order for dma to take. And definitely restart after changing to DMA

do you get buffer underrun errors when you burn? Do your burns come out ok?

You said you're using an external burner correct? Are you using this to read also? If I'm not mistaken, USB1.1 and USB2.0 use different cables. Maybe you have a USB1.1 cable?

Can you use firewire? That's even faster than USB2.0.

Since it is an external drive DMA won't apply since it is not an IDE device but rather a USB.

yeah, I didn't notice the external part until after I wrote the post about PIO/DMA.

BTW Mort, how'd that batch encode work out for you?

No problem, almost too easy. How about your booktype setting with omnipatcher?
