Hey guys, in this thread http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial.cfm what is the program used for ripping the dvd? I know it is removed but can I rip with any program (dvd decrypter,clonedvd2, etc?) thx for the info!
dvddecrypter or dvdfabdecrypter will do. there is a section dedicated to rebuilder, if u have any further questions post there.
You can use CloneDVD2, just set your output size to DVD9 so it does not change the file size and then output to a DVD File Folder.
I have just started fooling with DVD Rebuilder. After the recode was complete, I have 3 folders. Audio_TS D2VAVS Video_TS The Audio_TS folder is empty. D2VAVS has some (it looks like)avisynth files in it. Video_TS I assume has my recoded movie. When I try to use Nero to burn my Video_TS folder, it says that reallocation of files failed. It then asks If I wish to continue. If I click "yes" it says that the DVD may not be readable in a DVD Player. What software is recomended for burning the Video_TS file? If I used shrink, would it re-encode my movie, thus making my Rebuilder session pointless? Thanks for any advice.
How did you setup your RB and what encoder are you using? You should be able to burn your file with Nero and have no problem. I use Nero to burn my RB output files all the time. My preferred program.
I used CCE SP Trial to Encode and I used the aD guide to set up DVD Rebuilder and CCE SP. Would shrink ruin the cce encode? Do you use nero's burning ROM, or nero express?
I use Nero Burning Rom, and also use CCE SP too. Make sure you have your path to CCE setup correctly, which ver. are you using? Also, you would be better to rip with either DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter for the files. You can rip with Shrink if you tell it no compression or set preferences to Dual Layer and then rip to your HDD. RB will not do well on something that is already compressed. Is it normal that the 3 phases:1)preparing, 2)encoding and 3)rebuilding, is taking me 194 minutes????(Downsizing a 7,31 Go. to 4,3 Go. and encoding) What are your times? thx for the info...
Man, that guide covers EVERYTHING. Thank you. How come my DVD rebuilder doesn't install though? It sure doesn't look like the one in the guide. I will try to convert the files to an ISO and then burn with ImgBurn. I will post my results. Thanks again arniebear.
@JXP2307 You are welcome, glad it helped. Your ver. of RB will look different between the free and the pro. However, the free still has the Rockas installer. The installer is much easier than having to install and set it up yourself. The only thing you have to watch is when you install CCE, you need to make sure you set the path to the ver. you have. @bauerv15 The time RB takes is dependent on your computer processor/ram and the encoder you are using. CCE is the fastest although it is pay, HCenc is free and does an excellent job, but it is a little slower.
@arniebear Have you tried the MenuEdit? Likes/dislikes... I would only use it for episodic DVDs. I do "movie only" for features.
@teflonmyk No I have not tried the MenuEdit, I usually do movie only, or movie with menu. For episodic disks I have been splitting with Clone usually get two per disk plus menu but no compression. Most of the time I don't get to watch all that much before bed, so splitting has been working out for me.
I have been using the fantastic "High Quality DVD-9 Backups With DVD Rebuilder & CCE Basic" for well over a year now, but have recently seen references to MP4 being able to make very small backups. Is this a better way to go now? Does the quality compare to the old CCE/DVD-RB method? Thanks.
mp4 meaning divx/xvid??? yes this is good way to format your video's if you wish to store them e-mail them or host them but as for watching them on disk you would need a divx stand-alone? and another program to do the conversion!
oh. I had thought they were referring to some mpeg 4 that was a completely different format from divx/xvid with supposedly quality very close to that of DVD. Oh well guess im sticking with CCE. Thanks
MPEG-4 is an improvement over MPEG-2 (used in video) and can give similar quality levels at lower bitrates. The disadvantage is that it is not included in the DVD standard and therefore can't be played on most DVD players. There are a few DivX certified players around that can play them back -- but most only work using CDs and won't play back DVDs containing MPEG-4. You definitely can't make a "backup" of a disc (menus etc.) using MPEG-4. A recent extension to MPEG-4 (but not the same) is MPEG-4 part 10 (definitely not to be confused with DivX). It is also called AVC (Advanced Video Coding) and H.264. This standard is the primary one that will be used on High Definition DVDs. There are no off-the-shelf settop DVD players that I know of that can play it back (although that would surely be nice). AVC is clearly the wave of the future. If you want to try it there are some freeware encoders out there (AVLIBCODEC includes one). They are pretty slow at encoding (as is always true with new codecs) -- but can give you an idea of the quality impact. I've seen articles that contend that AVC can create video equal to MPEG-2 at a quarter of the bitrate. You're going to hear a lot more about AVC in the next couple of years.
