I am very new to Imgburn. I've managed to get this program to upload a dvd to my computer. I now want to burn it to a blank dvd. The problem I am having is that it says the blank dvd is not large enough for the file. The size of my blank disc is 4.38GB. Am I using the wrong discs? I've also had this problem in NTI program aswell. Also dont really understand the difference between dvd+r & dvd-r. I am running windows vista if that helps any. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Might be using the wrong type of discs- may need a dual layer or you need to compress the dvd you ripped to your hard drive. What is the size of the file (iso) imgburn 'uploaded' to you hard drive? There really isn't much difference between -R or +R. 2 different alliances started each format. -R at one point was more compatible w/ dvd players but with most playing both formats the past several years that's getting to be a moot point. +R can be booktyped (if you're drive supports this) - that fools the player into thinking the disc is a DVD-Rom which most commercial dvd's are and the most compatible format. Also moved this to a forum a bit more appropriate.
Binkie, Thanks for your help. The dvd on my hard drive is 4.35 GB (4,680,845,312 bytes) in size, another is 5.71 GB (6,139,492,352 bytes). I have been able to burn some dvds but all due to this size issue. I dont know if my computer is able to do dual layer disc (which would be another thing I'd have to learn about). Thanks for explaining the dvd+ & - thing. There are sooo many things about burning/copying discs that I'd like to learn but all in its own time (things like making copies of ps2 games and wii games).
Not a problem 2leftfeet. Here's a 'tweak' for Shrink - this will give you the option to autoburn w/ ImgBurn. link For the files you ripped from ImgBurn in Shrink go to File>Open Disc Image. Unless you have a pretty old burner - over 4/5 years old - your burner should support burning dual layer. Now for the copying console games well the console will need to be modded (soft or hard mod) to play the backups. For the Wii you can only use certain LG DVD-Roms to rip the games. Check out each console's forum here at aD for more info. edit: add link for Shrink tweak
Thanks for your help. I did the dvdshrink to compress the dvd and it worked. I hope you dont mind but I've another question. I purchased Wall-E from BigW, I want to make a copy for my 3yr old (he can scratch it and I dont have to stress about a $20 disc). Problem is that it has copyright protection on it. I've tried, dvdshrink, imgburn and NTI all with no luck. Is there anyway I can make a copy for my own personal use?
For the copy protected stuff rip w/ DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) then open those files in Shrink or run AnyDVD (not free but has a 21 day free trial) in the background w/ Shrink or use it with it's counterpart CloneDVD. Either one of those will handle the latest copy protections. If you need help using the programs just post back. Or if it's just w/ that movie only see the link bryson posted. And no worries on the questions. edit: add shrink to dvdfab part
Hey 2leftfeet ... how did your disk burn go? I've been through this thread on the thread suggested by bryston. NTI is giving me issues. Thanks
CodyBane, I went to the link that Bryston mentioned and read everything on that forum, followed their instructions and it worked. Two days later my computer crashed and died so now I've got a new and better DH and havent had a chance to burn any discs. Good luck.
