Hi , I have a memorex 16x dual format external recorder DVD+- RAM 510Lv1MWS7(usb) burner, ive had it for about a year and a half and its worked great, however about a month ago, while trying to back up my dvd's using i started getting a power calibration error message after burned failures. I'd get write error messages sometimes but mostly it was the power calibration thing, i would just try the burn again and it would work. I've used several different types of media: TDK, verbatim, magnavox, imation, and it would happen with them all so i dont think its the media. The firmware is up to date and it reads and rips discs fine. Also sometimes when i press the eject button i would hear a loud swirling sound, even with nothing in the drive, coming from the burner before it would open. Anyway today I wasable to burn one movie disc fine, then i had about 3 write errors, so i tried to burn a data dvd disk and was able to do so fine. Unfortunately i've gone thru another 5 discs with the same thing happening each time, it would get to 2-4% then fail with a write error. So any ideas? Is it the burner? 62 MB of free memory is pushing the envelope. Don't multi-task during the burn. InCD sometimes causes problems with Nero when burning and shouldn't be installed. I no longer use Nero but what I would do is remove it completely using the Nero Clean Tool then install the last good version of Nero 6 (without the toolbar). Before removing, you need to write down your serial number (BTW it's shown in your log that you posted and should be edited out, lest someone borrows it). Your 'calibration' error usually refers to poor media. Use the Verbatim disks and opt for a Simulated Burn until the problem is resolved. Set the burn speed to half the maximum on the package or 4x. A simulated burn requires a good, blank DVD - but nothing is actually burned to the disk. If that doesn't help, your next step would be to get Nero out of the picture, by using Imgburn to burn the folder to disk (Imgburn has a 'Test mode' that simulates burning). If that also fails, try Imgburn on another PC and connect that burner to it. You May Also want to Check your Cables and Connection to your Burner and While you Have the Computer opened Blow it out with some Canned Air.
Thanks Attar, i just went ahead and removed nero and installed Imgburn, and that has worked perfectly so far. Guess it was the nero software and not the burner itself, which makes me incredibly happy. Thanks also for those links they came in handy especially the nero clean tool.
