I can't backup any discs. I only got one to work. I have most of the software. I am using Memorex DVD+R 16X (CMCMAG M01). I get that says something like bad medium. I will try to get a screenshot.

That media is absolute crap. Get Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Made in Japan labeled Fuji or Sony media.

Also burn at 4X or half the rated speed of the media.

Don't burn all the way to the edge. Set the target size to custom and 4350 or 4400 for 4.7GB media.

It doesn't hurt to booktype your +R media as DVD-ROM either, but first things first, get some good quality media. Without that, nothing else matters.

no. absolutely do not burn with the media you have. use them as coasters, wall decorations, frisbees...even grind them up and add them to paint for a pearl effect, but don't burn with them.

any verbs stamped "made in japan" will be fine :D

No one can guarantee this will fix your problem, but without good quality media, you start out in a big hole.

What is the brand and model of your burner. Also do you know its firmware version number? The firmware number is the letters and/or numbers displayed after the burners name in most burning and utility programs.

What software are you using? Most here use DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and AnyDVD. Many also use the Nero Suite.

Don't burn over 4X or half the rated speed of the media either for good quality burns.

We'll likely get your problems straightened out forthwith so don't worry.

I'll be away for a couple hours or so and won't be able to reply, but others may.

Devon, is this a Liteon labeled drive or is it a rebadged Liteon from another company?

Download DVD Identifier and report back the name of the burner if you're not sure. The download site is in my signature below.

Yes that's it, Devon. It's definitely a LO 1633S. As to why it won't update the firmware, I think you're going to have to do it in steps because yours is so out of date. I'll look around later and see if I can fuind some older 1633 firmware. I guess we're trying to jump too many versions for it to work since it's so out of date. Maybe smeone else knows where all the older firmware is housed in the meantime.

The drive is an older one. I have the same drive and purchased mine well over a year ago. I don't use it anymore though. Since the 1633 there has been the 1653, 1673, and now the 1693.
