Hi, I just bought a brand new Sony DRX-820U DVD/CD external Rewriteable drive wich came packaged with Nero, v. 6.6.0.19. The drive appears to work fine, I installed the softwhare from it and I was eventually able to burn a audio cd with some crappy shareware I got from cnet, but nero has never worked, it just stops responding when I hit burn and I have to kill it in task manager. One time I just let it run for eight hours while I was at work but it didn't go any where. I tried the uninstal->cleantool-> install stable version solution but I still get the same problem. Have you checked your USB drivers and made sure you have the 2.0 ones installed? I don't know much about the external drives and how they work so I can't help much there, but it does appear to me you are having trouble accessing the drive. The DMA is also off on your DVD-ROM, which might effect data transfer. Have you checked the media for compatability with your burner? Maybe slow to a 4x speed.
