i would love if someone can help me.. i record music.. and my hard drive has failed me with a years worth of work on it... in the bios its coming up as a maxtor calypso...under the factory name.. when I turn on the computer the hard drive makes a constant clicking noise. It will not recognize itself as 6Y200P0 maxtor 200gb like it should it comes up in the bios as Maxtor Calypso. I did a search on google that led me a program which says it can be repaired but for 400 dollars any way around this?
first off, if your hard drive is making an audible clicking noise, then something is physically wrong with its internal parts, so don't turn it on!! you are just damaging it further. programs that can repair and retrieve lost data are for drives that have accidently been quick formatted. your case is different. those programs won't work because they still won't be able to access your drive because internal parts are probably broken...software can't fix that. you can take it to a computer repair shop, but its still going to be $200 to $500 to attempt to repair the broken drive and retrieve the data. so if you want your data back, you can't be cheap about it and try to get craked versions of repair programs...you're gonna have to shell out some money if you want your data back.
My hard drive 'died' on me recently so I can sympathise witht you (lucklily I had backed up a good portion of my styff but still damn annoying). I came across this site while looking into it, it is complicated but I don't know you technical capabilities http://www.hackaday.com/entry/1234000840067578/ Also you don't say if when you turn it on if it boots at all, if it does maybe you could set it up with another HD and copy the information across? Adh Mor (good luck).
