Ok as always i copy my OWN movies never anyone elses. I use AnyDVD and Clone DVD2(My fav combo and only combo i get). Well i have a few questions because as i continue to back up my library and new movies im noticing a lot of problems: [bold]1.[/bold] Right now for instance im copying "Cast Away" and it shows that with JUST the movie and English its at 50% quality whuch to me is to much. I noticed i could remove some audio but how the heck do i know which one to remove? Two of the three are commentaries! Is there a program that lets you listen to DVD audio tracks so you know which is which? This way when quality is low i can at least turn off unwanted englih audio tracks and just keep the main movie audio! [bold]2.[/bold] Speaking of low quality i notice any movie that is around or near 2:30 is always (around or less then)50% quality (never had this problem with DVD X Copy). Is there anything else i could do to get better quality besides buying bigger DVDs? I dont understand the advanced way of ripping a dvd so that method is out. It just seems like i wont be able to copy any of my movies that are longer then 2:30 or else ill have to suffer with quality that is under 50%.
Open the movie in DVD Shrink, let it analyze. Once that is done, start the preview window. Advance the movie a bit and then right click the preview window. Select Audio from the menu. Now you can listen to the various audio streams. Take note of the one you want and use it. Shrink has some advanced quality improvement features that work pretty well although they slow the process down. I have CloneDVD2 and don't see any easy way to check for the correct audio track. CloneDVD2 compression numbers are generally a bit lower than Shrink's just to keep things in perspective. Matrix Revolutions Main title, English only no subpictures: CloneDVD : 70% Shrink : 80% I think that is just the way it is measured, you have to compress the thing down to 4.37 Gb any way you look at it, regardless of the program.
So for the most part Quality doesnt really matter since it all gets shrunk down to the same size? I get it! I guess 50% isnt that bad. Ive watched a 50% movie and only seen about 3 spots where it got all pixelated for half a second. I guess the only big diffrence would be (im assuming) is on bigger tvs? Once again im assuming thats what it means by "Quality". My tv is a 32 Inch non-HD....nothing special tv.
One thing that will help if your tv has it which it should. From your dvd player run S-Video cable to tv. If your tv was HD it would have componant inputs and that's the only way to go for the best quality. You will se a diffrence if your not already running S-Video I guarantee it. One other note, if you don't care about the menues and extra stuff on dvd you can just shrink the movie in dvd shrink. Afer you open up shrink go to reauthor and just drag over the title, Personally I always remove some audio that's worthless to me like DTS and dolby 5.1, this will also help with compression. Good Luck Spacedust
spacedust, that is the method I use too. works the best for me. but you don't know what ur missing without a good surround sound set up and dolby5.1 setup together, or maybe you do know if you have ever gone to see a movie at the movie theater. but, it only is REALLY good if you was a movie with a lot of action.
