Okay, since no one is helping me in the dvd ripping section, I'll post my problem here: Hi, I'm trying to backup March of the Penguins and I now I have no sound. I used DVDFAB Decrypter to rip it and used Shrink to do the rest. I noticed that I have no sound what so ever for anything but the main feature. I'm wondering where is the sound for the other features. I use WinDVD and Media Player Classic to play the IFO and see if the sound was still there and it is. It's just it won't play the sound on the preview menu and I already burned one disc and no sound on the disc either. Can someone help me please?
Are you "unselecting" various audio tracks? Perhaps you are removing the audio tracks for the previews and such by mistake. Make sure you are deleting audio tracks from specific titles and not the entire DVD at once.
There is a possibility that you removed the sound if you disabled some of the audio streams. After you get the movie loaded into Shrink you should see a list on the left. It will have something like this: MARCH OF THE PENGUINS +Menus +Main Movie +Extras +Unreferenced Materials Try this: Click the + box to expand the Menus. That gives you something like this: -Menus +Title Menu +VTS 1 +VTS 2 +VTS 3 click on each, one at a time while looking at the Audio on the right. If no audio is present on the original then it will say "No audio streams". When you run across one that has an audio stream then it will say something like "AC3 2-ch Unspecified". Make sure the box next to this is checked. Once you are done checking over the various menu title sets and making sure their audio boxes are checked, go back by clicking on MARCH OF THE PENGUINS at the top. Now when you look over at the Audio on the right you will see that additional blocks are now checked. To verify before burning start the preview window and listen to the start of the movie. All your audio should now be present as the movie plays through each title. You can do the same thing with each of the various titles. Extras for example. You probably noticed that different types of audio are used for different parts of the movie. Menus usually do not have 5.1-ch AC3 for example.
Thanks fasfrank, I tried what you said I still have no sound in the preview window. I left everything checked (including subpictures, which I usually uncheck French from) and I still have no sound. I clicked on the expand button next to menus and I onlu have a VTS 4, is that normal? I tried another movie that same day and everything worked fine on it, it's just the Penguins. Thanks for the info ebega and fasfrank, got any more suggestions?
In shrink, check your settings under Edit>Preferences and look at these settings: You might have that unchecked, or something else selected in the pulldown menus. Just a thought..
@donewell Where did videoboi ever say he used recode? You wont get a whole lot of help around here acting like a 12 year old.
Sorry just thought i'd give him away to do it with one program and not have to use all the others he was using for no reason. Maybe some people just like to waste time.
Well sorry if I snapped or was judgemental of your reply. Some people do not want to spend forty dollars on AnyDVD and another seventy on Nero, and decide to use an extra step and take an extra 15 minutes to do the same thing. @videoboi---you say you can watch the file on your computer w/sound up untill the shrink process? Did you put the Shrink version back on your hard drive b4 burning it and watch/listen to/it instead of just using the preview screen?
What I did was I ripped "March of the Penguins" into the hard drive, shrinked and burned, then deleted the IFO/ISO. Then I noticed the disc had no sound, so I reripped the disc into the hd and still has no sound. I used the latest version of DVDFAB Decrypter to rip it. But I haven't tried what you said, but I will and I'll let you know.
Okay, I tried to rip the movie into new shrunken folders from Shrink and there's no sound there. I think I'll try to rip the movie with DVD Decrypter and see if it works like that because I read someone else did that and it worked fine, so I'll give it a shot.
If no sound on hard drive it sounds like the stream isnt there even before you get to Shrink. I dont have time to post a picture, but check your FabDecrypter settings, on the taskbar at top, next to the maximize, minimize, and close icons, there is one that looks like a sun. Click that and see if you have language set properly.

Then I noticed the disc had no sound, so I reripped the disc into the hd and still has no sound" Did you re-rip from the original DVD or from the copy you made, if your re-ripping from the copy, then your results will be the same. I had no problems with ripping this flick with DVD shrink alone, but I re-authored the movie to get just the main title and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel. I believe you stated you wanted the whole movie, you should be able to do this using shrink's full movie backup mode. As you stated you could also try using DVD decrypter in File mode to rip the files to your HDD, just remember to select "ALL" for the File mode setup in decrypter's settings to make sure you get the whole movie ripped to your HDD, when complete just use shrink to open the files with and do a full movie backup.
Thanks for the reply. I reripped the movie using the original disc on DVD Decrypter and there's sound if I play the IFO on WinDVD or Media Player Classic, but still no sound if I play the moive in the preview window in DVD Shrink. And I also copied all the files in DVD Decrypter. Gosh, this movie is just driving me nuts.
Try going into My Computer/Documents and Settings/All User/Application Data/DVD Shrink and delete any of the leftover analysis files. All except the 1K file it needs that one. Shrink may be picking up on your past rip.
videoboi, I'll throw my 2 cents in. Insert original disk and go into DVDDecrypter. Go to .ifo mode. On the right you will see stream processing. You might have to enable stream processing so put a check mark there. In the box on the right is there a check mark next to everything. Check all of the PGC's and the chapters to make sure there are check marks. Just go through them all as it lists the audio and video size for each part of the movie. If the audio is clicked off there then you will not be able to hear it . This is the only thing that has not been suggested and I think that is where the problem is
