Recently my P4 computer died ( motherboard friedup). It was a sign that i need a new computer. Anyways ive been looking at AMD Phenom II x2 550be and I heard its really good plus it can unlock 2 more cores to make it a quad. The price isnt tht bad either and i heard its good at overclockin. Anyways a friend of mine recommend to get intel core 2 quad such as q9550 but its pricey. i have everything set already just deciding which CPU to get

Heres what i have so far
    hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
    video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351
    ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166
    cpu cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223
    combo case with psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.195845

    now cpu
    AMD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128387

    intel http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041
    mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131377

then again the x2 550 may not unlock

i main use computer for converting movies (hd) and few gaming, downloadin, a little photo editing

    amd pc total $738
    intel pc total $893
if i get amd it saves me alot and i would like to get a new monitor

anything else tht i need or dont need

    HDD: 10/10
    GPU: 8/10 - you don't need a 1GB HD4850, the 512MB will do.
    RAM: 10/10
CPU Cooler: 4/10 - there are much better coolers than that for less money, such as this one (this is the AMD version): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125
    Case: 7/10
PSU: 4/10 - That's a lot to spend on a mediocre combination, even with the discount. Get these instead:

AMD CPU: 9/10 - a little on the expensive side, but quite fast.
AMD Mobo: 10/10 - best of the bunch for AMDs.

Intel CPU: 10/10 - An awesome CPU, but why go for a top of the range quad core with intel, but only a midrange dual core with AMD? AMDs make quad cores, and Intel make dual cores. if you need to save money you can still use intel, just get a core 2 duo instead.
Intel Mobo: 4/10 - not very good, get this instead, it's cheap but reliable: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128380

Not really, in my opinion the intels are better than the AMDs, but the intels are marginally more expensive, by maybe $10-$15.

yea i want the combo cuz case and the psu, whats a good psu with a decent case

also can the amd 550 really be a quad? does tht mean its faster and do they work the same as the 2 already unlock cores?

It can potentially be a quad, but it only works with certain boards, and not all CPUs can do it. It's best not to assume you can do it.
What I meant was that AMD do actually make proper quad cores.
