I initially posted this in the Shrink forum, but nobody has responded yet.

Usually I just re-author and copy the movie only. However, there are some movies that I want the extras too (and the menus). Sometimes if I were to copy the full disk, the compression would be way too much.

I think that I saw a guide somewhere that walks me through exactly how to make a still image for the movie part and copy all of the rest of the dvd.

Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Once you have the DVD titles loaded up, click on one of the folders labeled "Menus" and/or "Extras" on the left. Then, on the right, under compression settings (the video section of it) change from "automatic" to "still image" in the drop-down list.

So... That's the answer to what you've asked... BUT, I would never do it, because the menus won't function correctly... Here's what I usually do:

When I want to keep all menus and extras on a disk, I keep Title 1 [the main movie] set to "automatic", and change all other the other folders [i.e., the "Menus" folder] to "custom ratio" (and then under custom ratio" compress down as much as possible). This will free up space on the DVD, and thus allow the main movie to be compressed less.

For the menus to still function, you really can't set them to "still image" (as I described in the first paragraph of this response)... because then they won't be functional. You best bet is to go with "custom ratio" and compress them down to the smallest ratio that DVDshrink will let you.

That said, if you find a title in the "Extras" folder that you know you'll never want to see... you can change the setting to "still image" for that one INDIVIDUAL title, to save space.

    So, usually:
    1) I compress the heck out of the menus folder via "custom ratio"
    2) I compress the heck out of the extras folder via "custom ratio" in a similar manner.
    3) Then finally, I go back through each individual title in just the extras folder to determine if I want it (even compressed as it is) at all. If not, then I replace that one title with a still image via "still image".

Note: You can change the compression setting a whole folder at a time, or just one title at a time. The choice is yours.

Sorry your question didn't get answered right away but multiposting is not allowed. If ever you do have a question that goes unanswered, simply reply to your own thread with "bump". That will bring it back to the top of the list. But please have a bit more patience and wait more than the six hours you waited before you decided to multipost. Maybe in the neighborhood of 48hrs.

It looks like the lesson has been learned so I'll shut this one down :)
