can someone help me with this? Recently, I noticed a slow down in my computer performance. I dont know whether is the monitor or computer, but what is happening is, whenever I surf or just work offline, it seem to take about a minute or 2 longer for it to display on my screen. It seem to be performing as if I have a full hard drive or a virus. I runned just about everything i can imagine, to no avail.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    I have a pentium 4 2.66ghz
    a 1 gig ram,
2 hard drives, one about 1/4 full which is where the operating system is located, the other is just for storage.
    please help. thank you.

    Pete

Have you checked for spyware? I've just had a similar experience with my computer. I ran adaware, nortons, etc, and norton picked up on the spyware but didn't remove it. I then installed and ran Noadware, which found loads of dodgy stuff and removed it. All is good once again in madmutt world!

run Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware.... then got www.trensmicro.com and run their free online scan.

First clean out your temp internet files and cookies through the control panel. then go to start-> run->and type "temp" (no quotes) and delete all those temp internet files.

Then download CC Cleaner, CWShredder, MS AntiSpyware, and Adaware, and Spybot.

Boot to safe mode, and run in this order:
    CC Cleaner
    CW Shredder
    MS Anti Spyware
    Ad aware
    Spybot
MS AntiSpyware (only if the other programs picked up anything before)

This will get rid of all ad/spyware on your computer. You might want to run a virus scan while youre in safe mode too for good measure.

Another spyware I like is microsucks...

    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

I have used it and it has found shit that spybot and others missed. The only thing better than all is www.zonealarm.com . Get the pro edition. It's not only a firewall, but has built in spyware scanner it. I didnt even know limewaire was tracking me till I ran zone and it found the lime spyware. :>
