About three weeks ago, after stupidly fiddling with my codecs, some of my videos stopped playing on WMV9, with the error, "The audio codec identified by the format tag 161 is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available for download from the web, click Web Help." After clicking Web Help, it just brings me to the Windows codec download pack, which does not fix the problem. After some research, I have learned that the codec it's looking for is the mp3/audio codec for DivX. I don't know how it disappeared, but I was able to find it for download separate from DivX 3.11. Sadly, it did not fix the problem. I then installed the full DivX 3.11, did not fix the problem. After a lot of screwing around to try to fix this, my player is more messed up now than ever. I don't even get the "format tag 161" error anymore, now I just get the dreaded error message C00D11CD. So, all I want to do now is remove ALL codecs, ALL divx stuff, and ideally uninstall WMV9 even though I know Windows won't allow you to do that. Just want to start over! Please help - I've gone through so much research, tried so many different things, and everything is just getting worse. I've tried using Gspot, but the vidoes that won't play are .wmv files, so it doesn't help much. I've also tried downloading the ac3filter_0_66b file, but that also didn't fix it. ANY help anyone can give would be so very much appreciated. I really don't want to have to totally wipe and restore Windows to fix this! Thanks in advance. -Pete
I should also add that when I say I want to remove all the codecs and divx, I need to know how to remove them from the registy fully because I think that's where everything got confused. I just need to get all the codec stuff off the machine and start over.
