Hi there, You won't be able to get your phone unlocked by posting you IMEI on this forum. I don't know why people do it, maybe a Cingular employee was once in a generous mood and sparked this myth. There are 3 ways to unlock your moto v551: 1. Do a google search for a free unlocking solution. I wouldn't do it if your phone was expensive, as they are renowned for frying your firmware. 2. Phone up Cingular and ask them how much they charge to unlock your phone. 3. Buy a unlock that works using your USB cable from a site like http://www.phoneblitz.com. You can get a v551 unlock at http://www.phoneblitz.com/phones/RAZRV3.htm Hope this helps Sam
Actually, You CAN unlock your phones with the IMEI. I have just unlocked my nokia by posting the phone model, the IMEI and the network provider - there are programs which create the algorythms which then produce the codes - people are often online in the forums and reply with the code.
janeypoo is right, you can unlock Nokias that way, and a lot of other phone makes. However, for Motorolas (and this is a Moto forum) there is no simple rule or algorithm to generate unlock codes from IMEIs. What you need is a piece of software which reads your phones firmware, specifically the part with the locking information. This is complicated software, requiring many programming hours work - which is why you have to pay for the service. Best wishes, Sam
I have a list of places that will unlock about any phone by state. I purchased it from e-bay and I used it to success. I think the guys in the network charge around 20 bucks. If you send me your state I will post the location nearest you no charge.
