OK i know i am probably going to have this questions banned because it's prolly already been answered but i looked and couldn't find what i needed i evern searched and still couldn't find it so either i worded the question wrong or it hasn't been asked

Pretty much my friend is trying to copy movies using a dvd burner to blank dvds, problem is it only lets her make one copy it knows that she has already made a copy of the movie once before so how does one get around this so more then onecopy can be made?

there seems to be something stored on the comp that knows say for instance better off dead has already been copied once and was coming up with a msg saying something to the effect that one copy of this movie had been made another could not be made, she is comp savy and couldn't find anythign to that effect

If she has a copy on the disk she can use any burning program to do a DiskCopy. You can use Nero, Roxio, Sonic or what ever program that came w/ your computer

Tell her to download DVD decrypter then go to Mode "Iso read" then Mode "Iso Write".

    It may work.

Are you using an XCopy product? If so, you might try deleting all the logs.

    5. -> PIRACY AND LINKING TO PIRATED MATERIAL IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE FROZEN IF YOU DO THIS <-

Somewhere I got the impression that making copies of copies fell under the heading of piracy, especially when it is a constant practice. Helping one do so is aiding and abetting.

What if the backup craps out? Making another backup would be ok. But yes ... you shouldn't make multiple copies.

HOW DARE YOU ACUSE ME OF PIRACY OR MY FRIEND, she wants to copy her dvds because her dvd player keeps killing the originals and it will do the same to the copies so she would spend almost $1000 every damnerd time she has to replace 7 seasons of buffy and what about the dvds that can't be brought in australia or for that matter very rare ones that u can no longer get anymore should she never be able to copy them more then once and preseve the orginal when it can't be brought more.

and before you go accusing anyone of being a pirate stop to ask them if they have a dvd burner in the first place which I DON'T! accusing without knowng the facts is just the same as if i turned around and said that clearly u pirate stuff if you are willing to accuse me of it. so dude next time u want to judge someone without knowing the fact judge yourself first and ask yourself if you would like to be judged the way u judge ppl

I would use DVD Decrypter as suggested by brian100, I would also suggest that your friend buy a new DVD player as it would be cheaper that having to redo all her disks.

    Jazmine,

If your friends standalone player ruins both originals and backups ... I would buy a new player. Would pay itself off by not ruining so many backups.

Also are you using XCopy to backup?

I as well wonder about keeping a player that eats DVDs. They're so cheap now, it would be far cheaper to buy a player than ruin so many discs. Especially when one has a $1,000 worth of Buffy to save. ;)

Turning out multiple copies does come close to that gray line. And many countries frown on the practice.

There is no reason not to make another copy once one has been damaged or destroyed. That is why we back them up. The only program I am familiar with that wouldn't allow multiple backups is 321. Even with it, one could still copy the original at a later time. It just wouldn't allow setting down and cranking out multiples or making copies of copies.

Assuming someone did have a program that wouldn't allow copying for legitimate reasons, it would have to be storing the info in a log. Clear the log and the problem would be solved. You need to check with tech support for the software vendor if you are unable to get the problem resolved on the forum.

You have piqued my curiosity. Why are you asking all these questions if you have no burner and your friend does? It places us at a difficulty to assist, unless you are as familiar with the friend's PC as they are and know the software being used. There has yet to be mention of the software or the system being used. It would be helpful if the friend came forward and assisted in the solution. You're such a good friend, I am sure you would allow the use of your internet connection if they have none.

brobear ... I have a couple of teenaged daughters, and this is the way they do things. Umm, makes perfect sense to me for one of them to send a friend on an information errand. And the friend's DVD player is probably a hand-me-down from the parents. 'The folks had to get another one after the kids trashed this one. Dad thinks the player is OK, though, because it doesn't eat his DVD's ... he's got the knack of it. But asking a teenage girl to buy her own DVD player...you've got to be kidding...that's not what they spend their money on!!! That's a logical guy thing, anyway. For girls, it's clothes ... so they can look good in Daddy's car!!!

Now then, I wouldn't want to accuse them of sharing media (ha,ha), even though this would probably be a bonding thing for them to do. Right. I mean, it would be neat to have matching Buffy collections, but I'm sure this isn't what they are doing(?). Do you think we should let the charade continue if they can come back with some decent software info, and promise not deal in details about the project? :)

    One must keep the decorum.

The situation was so blatant, it needed to be addressed. That small fortune in discs to preserve the $1,000 Buffy collection broke my heart. They would have been wise to invest in the cheap little DVD Player. They could have bought more clothes and jewelry with what they saved.

Yeah, I know ... the whole thing was one big load... . And it was just a little too insulting. I suspect that they will be back, though. The next time it'll be another name, another story, and a little more polish.
