I have a dell dimension 3100 pc it has onboard graphics. A computer shop told me i could buy a dvi to hdmi cable and run it from my pc to hd tv. I checked my pc and realised i did not have a dvi connection so they told me i could use a vgu to dvi adaptor then run the dvi to hdmi cable from my pc to my hd tv.When I ordered the cable i ordered a hdmi to dvi by mistake. I tried connecting it anyway, someone told me it did not matter cause it was the same cable but i cant get any signal to come through please help i am lost.
Your TV may not like receiving a VGA signal through a DVI input. So it's possible that it will never work. Does your TV has a VGA input by any chance? Another possibility is a VGA to component cable adapter. Those use the same inherent tech, so that may work better. Also, you MAY get it to work as is if you change some settings in the menu of your TV. Try turning it off and back on, etc. You may specifically want to look at the "color range" type of menu settings. VGA and regular video have different colors. Check and make sure the resolution on the PC is something your TV can handle, as well.
The only connections i can see on the back of my hd tv are a rgb in for pc and a rs232c in and my 2 hdmi sockets. Could i use a vga to component cable to connect the vga from my pc to the component of my hd tv and would it carry sound or would i need another cable
