Anyone out there who can figure out this problem? I checked all the forums on this subject and have yet to find the right answer. Here we go. I'm copynig dvd's (homemade sports or entertainment dvd's) and most of them work fine. But for some of them, after the image for burning is created, the burning process (2nd step with blank dvd) fails after 1%. Error message is ***COULD NOT PERFORM FIXATION***, and ***INVALID FIELD***. In simulation(took a few coasters to learn about that) it gives the error ***COULD NOT PERFORM STARTRACK***. What I've ruled out: -media disk: some work and some don't with the same brand. -driver: it works fine on some dvd's, no failing there -Firmware: updated to samsung ts-h552u ver.us06 and still no change. -Dma enabled and still no change. -writing at 4x doesn't change anything. Here's a clue as far as I can tell. If I burn dvd's that have a simple menu, that is just a front page menu, the dvd's burn without a problem. If I burn dvd's that has a menu with submenus(boxes), the dvd's also burn without a problem. If I burn dvd's that have a menu with CHAPTERS, thats where I get the errors. Every case has been like that without fail. Just one more interesting note. When I try to burn these error dvd's(chapters) with Expressburn(681kb application) I am successful. It doesn't make sense that Nero can't handle these. I'll provide a log of one instance of where the burning failed. Using windows 98, 128k ram, 40g hard drive, Nero6.6, samsung ts-h552u. Any help would be much appreciated for me and the rest of the people who can't seem to have this problem solved. The minimum requirements for burning DVD's with Nero 6 is 128mb. It looks like you are right on the edge. Can you output from Nero to a folder and try burning with 'Imgburn' instead. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm
I will try and get back to you. Also, I have a couple of more if interesting points that might help As I said above, The dvd's I have trouble burning with Nero work fine with Expressburn. Then I take the dvd that I burned with Expressburn and "repass it" through Nero and now that dvd burns. So now Nero will burn the menu(chapters) that it wouldn't burn before. Secondly, If I do an image recorder on Nero with the dvd's in question, the burn works successfully, but when I burn to disk it fails, as explained above. Thanks
Attar, that was a great suggestion. I tried ImgBurn and it works perfect. Handles chapters and everything. I never would have thought about trying "Imageburn". I now have an excellent alternative. Those darn "could not perform fixation and starttrack" errors with Nero are still unsolved though. Thanks again!
