i bought a brand new pc last week with sony dvd recorder. nero essntials was preinstalled. it didn't work properly so in uninstalled it and put my own copy of nero 6 in. the problem i am still having is burning films...some burn ok and some only burn half the film and out pops the disc with no message from nero to say failed etc...nero just goes off...sometimes it happens with burn at once and sometimes without.i've wasted about 40 discs in the last week. does anyone know if my problem is the recorder or nero thanks irene
Suggest uninstalling Nero and run the Nero Clean Tool: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/General_Clean_Tool.html Then try a fresh install of Nero, recommend ver 6.6.0.18 which is less buggy. Try a disk or two to see what happens. Don't waste a lot of them!! Also, check on the www.rpc1.org site for any firmware updates to your burner. Search for the model number of your drive. New PC does not equal latest drivers.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems. Probably a good thing that you posted the log file. Hopefully someone more experienced at reading them will be able to offer advise (I find the logs a bit confusing). Usually a fresh install with uptodate firmware works wonders. Be sure to use quality blank media and burn at no more than half the rated speed of the disk; ie. 8X for a 16X disk.
Most/many Sony Burners are re-bagged LiteOn units but most likely have max CP protection. Is the computer Sony? It sounds that the system/drive may be reacting to CP or thinks the source is copy protected. Some programs are prevented from a copy to a PC burner, as in a standalone recorder to the DVD drive Sony is famous for this and has developed all kinds of gimmicks to do this, that many times when a burn should be ok, the result is a failed burn Nero can also be a problem and while many swear by it I don’t use it. However some downloads are in a Nero Image file and ImgBurn has worked very well for this Right at the start of this site [AfterDawn] is a link to a free use download of the latest version of ImgBurn I use both Cheetah and ImgBurn and have not had a failed burn My Burner is a LiteOn 1693s Try it in place of Nero – Uninstall Nero and install ImgBurn and see if it works.
