Hey there, im quite new to this and just wanted some info about swapping a hard drive from an old xbox to a new one. Is it possible? i know its an easy task but im just curious that some error message is going to pop up saying the hdd from the old xbox is un-readable once i get my new xbox started up and running. Guess I'll field this one. You can swap out HDD's between 2 xboxes but you will need to modify the xbox's with a modchip or softmod first. Each console has a special code called an EEEPROM file that indentifies the HDD to a certain console. Simply opening unmodded xboxes and switching drives will only result in boot errors. MS did this to prevent HDD upgrades and HDD modifiying. There are numerous threads about softmodding and chip modding your console available here. Just run a search.
good replay ... also another way of putting it is that If you ever take out a Hard drive for you to put in another one or just to use as a hard drive on your computer ...MAKE SURE YOU UNLOCK IT ... and that can only be done with it modded so there. If you unlock it, it can work in any of them as long as you lock it back after putting it in the other xbox ... wtich will need a mod for that also ...
