Please help out a newbie trying to get MeGUI to work . . . Not quite happy with the quality I get with uncropMKV, I dedided to take the plunge and try out meGUI, mainly to "uncrop" borders on non-standard-res .mkv's and also slightly reduce file sizes so that I can create PS3-compatible AVCHD's that will fit on DVD5's and DVD9's. However, after several hours of reading various guides and forums and trying several different approaches, I've still not been able to do a successful encode. I'm running Windows 7 Beta, so I fully realise some of my problems could be related to that. But I've also tried running meGUI under XP, and sill no joy, although the error messages are different, as I'll explain . . . I'm running the meGUI Complete Package. Under Win 7: 1) I successfully open the .avs script I've written for the .m2ts file (video only) I've created from the .mkv with tsMuxer. I get the video preview screen, so all seems fine. 2) Using Ryu77's Blu-ray -3- Ulta High Quality profile, I enque the job. When I start it, the first line on the job list immediately says "error" and nothing further happens. 3) When I close meGUI, I get a message saying that it can't empty the profiles folder -- why does it want to do that? And when I restart meGUI all the profiles (except for 3 "scratchpad" ones) are gone! I also can't re-import any profiles -- when I try to open a zip file with profiles, the Preset Importer screen is blank! Under XP, the .avs script doesn't even run successfully. I get a message saying AVISynth can't play the video, the format isn't supported (or something like that, I can't exactly recall). I've tried this with a second .m2ts, with the same result. Please help -- I'm pulling my hair out!
Well, I've solved part of my problem. It turned out that the paths to the various programs meGUI uses, weren't set correctly (I'm not using the C: drive). Now at least I can encode video. However, I still keep losing the profiles. After an encode, when I close meGUI, I get the following error message: "Error saving profiles There was an error clearing the profiles folder before deletion: The directory is not empty." I suspect this has to do with the fact that I'm using Windows 7. Any Vista users here with the same problem? So I have to re-import the profiles every time I want to do an encode. But I can't import using "Import Presets" -- the screen that opens is blank. I have to manually copy the profiles to the profiles folder. Any suggestions -- apart from switching back to XP?
Hmm . . . turns out the encoding is still not working -- not with any of the profiles apart from the x264 "scratchpad". As soon as the first pass starts, the status screen closes and "error" appears under "Status". Please help, I really want to get this to work . . .
Progress! Just did an update, and now I'm able to encode . . . Still don't know about importing (and keeping profiles/presets. Will see when this encode is done. Hope this is of some help to someone experiencing similar issues . . .
The update seems to have fixed everything -- except for the "Import Presets", which still gives me a blank screen when I try and open a zip file with profiles. Any ideas?
