hi I am going crazy trying to unlock my new 400gb seagate st3400620a drive. (softmodding for a friend) The softmod tut (chuckheads) doesn't seem to work when I get to the locking the drive step. When it should have locked the drive it comes back with something like "can't find a CD image" or similar. I figured I could lock it and tried to do this. But the -a option could find the hd key. So I tried another lock option (in the option Dos locking menu) and when it wanted a password I freaked. I new the correct hdpassword, but didn't want to type it in. So I typed "xboxscene" it returned that I had locked it with password "XBOXSCENE0". Hum Now it is locked and doesn't seem to unlock with ANY facility (linux,DOS,ATAPWD) with any password (xboxscene,xboxscene0, XBOXSCENE, XBOXSCENE0, or the correct 64 character hd cbox key. The sad part about this is I went through the same problem yesterday, and paid my $30 to unlock the same drive overnight. I have the drive jumped as master, in the primary master IDE cable position. I have tried from the CD and floppy hd utilities. Does the master password get set to XBOXSCENE? I didn't see it happen during the hard driuve build. Can anybody help?
I have the exact same HD and have successfully installed it into my Xbox with UnleashX. Here is my thread with all reference to my journey: Click. If you are building the HD to work with the Xbox the HD should not be locked when you get it so you would go and format it using XboxHDM, right? Then you have the problem when locking it you get a Linux CD Not Found! Insert and try again? This happened to me also because I was using a DVD burner. Try using XboxHDM without the ability from the CD/DVD drive of burning DVD's. It should work. To lock it afterwards I used the Chimp method which there is a link to within chunkheads tutorial. I just skipped a few steps to the locking part. I chose to lock from motherboard EEPROM. Good luck. Use the thread provided for any problems that may arise.
You could use this tutorial that i have been really interested in. http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/no-modchip-hdd-swap.php
Way to complex and full of areas that will undoubtedly have many noobs back on Afterdawn asking why their Xbox doesn't work! Steer well clear!
