Any help would be greatly appreciated -- just bought this new iPod for my husband for our 6th wedding anniversary, and I have a few short movie clips of our kids that I've transferred -- but there's no sound when we play them back! I followed the directions in the guide on iTunes to convert home videos that were recorded in MPEG4 (.mpg), using QuickTime Pro - exported them to "iPod (320x420)" and then transferred it to iTunes. The videos exported without problem to my new 30G iPod that I just purchased last week, but there is NO SOUND when I play back the video. The videos range from 10 seconds to one minute in length. I have 2 short videos (11 seconds) that were recorded in .avi format, and they played back fine on the iPod with video and audio. It looks like QuickTime Pro converts the MPEG4 to a video-only file (.M4V). Is there a way to fix this? The original MPEG4 files will not play at all on the iPod (neither video nor audio). Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I'm thinking about returning the iPod to the store - I have about 5 days remaining on the return policy! Many thanks, Choup06
Not an uncommon problem when using the built in converter from iTunes, or when using QuickTime Pro. You could try using a [free] program called Videora. There is a guide on how to use it here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/244629 You'll find it about half way down the page, along with other methods of converting videos and DVD's to be played on the iPod. If you still have any problems be sure to post back, if you're going to return the iPod this shouldn't be the reason!
Thank you so much. Videorai did the trick and it was about 3x faster than QuickTime Pro as well in converting. Now instead of taking the iPod back, I'm going to try to figure out how to "return" the $30 Pro version of quickTime. What a rip-off! You've saved my anniversary gift -- thanks again! choup06
No problem, yea, quicktime pro is a little slow with video conversion for whatever reason, and doesn't even do the job well! But I'm glad to have helped, enjoy your anniversary!
