Could you give us a little more info please nick, Have you been through the network wizard on windows? Are you getting an error mesg? Can you see one computer from the other and browse files? Is it just when you try to transfer data you have a problem? Just to let you know for next time dont need to post same questios twice - someone will get roung to helping if your patient.
yeah sorry bout that. Ive ran the network connection wizard and everything went well both the computers say connected and i have shared files but i cant access the other pc and vis versa ive done somthing with the IP addresses set the host to 192.168.0.1 and the other to 192.168.0.2 but i still have no luck. any suggestions
hey again, any firewall installed?what windows you running?(windows xp has inbuilt firewall) - you may have to configure firewall to acept files from the new network
Hey! remember to turn on file sharing on both computers! And both computers must have the same workgroup name setup, i.e. MSNHOME or whatever. Then it should work fine unless the firewall stops it as the other guy suggested you to check. Hope it helps! Cheers, Nick
hey im running windows xp pro and i have McAfee internet security suite installed. I disabled the firewall and windows firewall still no look thanks for the help people
hey i have reset the network connection and did it all over again but it still wont work. In the network connection TCP\IP what is DNS stand for and what do i have to put in it. please help
hey again bigears, TCP/IP are protocalls used in sendind and verifing data DNS is whst is used to find a site by name rather than IP address---> dont think you need to be dabling with these but may be wrong. I take it all network hardware is intalled correctly?drivers etc. and as nist suggested you did enable files sharing on BOTH comps when setting up network?
Can you ping the other computer? Open a DOS box two things do an ipconfig/all Check what comes back type ping 192.168.0.n (n being 1 or 2 the other PC) You are not using a router and you are using a crossover cable?
Here is a link to a site that helped me set uo my network. My 2 computers are connected via CAT5 cables, though. http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net-update.asp
Looks a good site. The principle of the "Ping" command is to send a ping to the other compter which then echoes it back. So basically it tells you if there is a connection, before you get to the stage of setting up shares.
