    Hi
I have learnt a lot in the last 4 hours going through this forum and following advice on how to copy a DVD. Excuse my non-technical talk, but I will try to explain as best I can the stops leading me to ask for help.
I had a few setbacks and tried different software combinations on the way, but finally I burned my DVD+R using this 4 step/software method as per tutorials on this forum: DVDFab, DVD Shrink, FixVTS and then ImgBurn onto my DVD+R. I am not sure what went wrong, but the DVD won't open automatically, and the files on it are the 2 video_ts and Audio_ts that were copied via DVD Shrink. In the video_ts folder is a long list of .BUP, .ISO and files associated with VLC media player which is my default player, but they open and close immediately. I tried to open some of the media files in Ivivo too but to no avail. I suppose I was expecting one large file to open and play the whole movie.
Can anyone advise please. I only have one more DVD+R left! LOL

With VLC you would click 'Media' > 'Open Folder', browse to/highlight 'Video_TS' and 'OK'.

Using DVD Shrink, if you can insert the disk and click 'Open Disc' and it loads the files without complaint, then the file structure is correct.

In my version of VLC there is no 'media' or 'open folder' but I can choose 'file' and 'open directory', choosing the video_ts folder. It opens briefly then closes again. I just get the opening of the DVD where you choose language then it closes.

Using DVD Shrink it opens the copied DVD fine and all looks great in the preview window as it is analysing. So if file structure is correct, what next?

Can you tell me exactly what I should have on the burned disk? I remember using NERO years ago and burning CDs which then opened automatically as the originals. Is this not the case with DVDs nowadays? I assumed I would get a cloned copy of my original which would open automatically, is this not correct? Thanks.

Hey I just discovered I can play it perfectly in DVD Shrink, in the little preview window. I feel so close....

    The Audio_TS folder is empty.
The VIDEO_TS folder contains .IFO .BUP and .VOB files.
If the disk opens ok in DVD shrink then it should open ok in VLC (I'm using version 1.0.5)
Do you get the same symptoms on the standalone player.

Sorry, what do you mean by this? Do you mean if I put the copied disk in the DVD drive? It doesn't open automatically - should it? In VLC if I choose to open the video_ts file or one of the other they either don't show anything at all or briefly before the window closes. I want to just open one file and watch the whole DVD, is this not possible? It looks fine in DVD Shrink when I highlight the main folder - I can watch it, but its not ideal and if I want to lend the DVD to a friend....especially one who knows even less than me.... LOL

OK, I think I know what might be going wrong. I updated VLC media. If I select 'open file' I get the FBI warning and nothing else. If I open 'folder' then you can see a series of files opening within VLC and then the DVD starts but I only get the opening screen where you have to click different options, the first being play. But, I cannot click on anything so it stays in a loop waiting. Trying something else I got the screen where you choose which language to use.
What I think may have gone wrong was following a tutorial which showed how to remove all the 'unnecessary' files such as other languages and audio files. Maybe I shouldn't have removed them, but copied the WHOLE DVD? Does this make any sense please?

Although it does work fine in DVD shrink previewer.... this is all too much for me! Anyone else have a clue. Sorry to be a pain, but this has taken me about 6 hours now... and counting LOL

I don't know why you are having a problem.
Is this DVD a new release?
Using DVDFab HD Decrypter, rip 'Main Movie' - that should give you the main title only - no menus, trailers, warnings.
Then FixVTS and DVD Shrink - 'Backup' from Shrink (with no compression) to a folder on the HDD and test with VLC - then compress using Shrink and burn.

OK, Put Disc you burned in the computer drive.
Open VLC, click media at top, then the 4 thing down Open Disc..., another screen comes up at bottom click play. See what happens.

PS: attar Thank You for all the help through your post. AD

Its a dance fitness DVD so I think I needed to have all the 'extras'.
I copied another ISO and burned it again - and YAY, IT WORKED! It evens opens in Windows Media now.
Thanks for your help and for your patience.
