    hi,
im experiencing a veryn aggravating problem with my cd-rw in the laptop ive been trying to free some space on my laptop hard drive but since i was a bit short on time i decided to uncheck the verify burn process option coz ive had a near flawless record especially while doing something simple like creating a data cd after i was done creating about half a dozen i paused just to make sure and to my horror none of them would auto play or show any data on the cd's they r all saying 0mb free 0mb space so they ve been used just no data is showing through im not quite sure if its the lens getting old or the new media i just got (maxell) cd-r's or updating the driver is needed but upon trying to verify on the next data cd and reduing the speed down to x4 for writing it verification failed and it said power calibration error. Please let me know what i can do to get past this exasperating problem. All advice is much appreciated. Thanks

    Post your last Nero log.
    (search in: program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log)

A 'power calibration error' may be a power problem, but it can also be a media problem.

    Hi,
I just converted the history log in my word folder it seems this is the history log of the older version of nero 6.6.0.15 that i was using i ve started using nero 7.0 premium of late and there appear to be 3 new folders other than the ahead folder in my program files. Do you know where i could find the history log of nero activities in this particular version? Thanks

Perhaps someone who has Nero7 can assist, however the following is from the Nero7 FAQ at nero.com:

" NeroHISTORYLog in the C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero (or Nero Express) directory. It is automatically created by our software"

As an aside, since Nero7 had been working for you and you mention that you have been freeing up space on the hard drive, would it be possible to do a 'system restore' back to the time it was working. This is only assuming that the 'freeing up' and the bad burns are related.

Hmmm, Believe it or not it started working ive just finished a 7th data cd in a row with succesful verification etc. etc. whats more the data cd's that were showing no files yesterday are also working now and the files are all playing perfectly !!! I read a couple of existing threads and tried to take bits and pieces of solutions so it could ve been anyone of bunch of things that did the trick. I restarted the laptop completely fresh start. Closed off a couple of the programs working in the background i think i was pushing my luck had nero, emule AND Azureus running simultaneously turned off Azureus cleaned the lens with a piece of cloth (never thought these things could make a difference but tried it anyways) and voila !!! everythings back to normal i just wish i didnt make coasters out of the couple of cd's i thought had nothing on them yesterday:) all the same a couple of cd's wasted as opposed to what could have been a dozen is still great. Thanks to all for any advice they offered.

hey famemon78 how did you clean the lens of your cd-rom with a piece of cloth. can you explain it to me with more detail. i want to try that because i also get a "power calibration error" with my cd burner.

i bought a cd lens cleaner but the dam cd driver won't play or recognize the cd lens cleaner. i know the cd lens cleaner works cuz i tried it on another pc and it works.

so, if you don't mind, can you tell me how you cleaned the lens, thanks.
