OK I've bought USB to Serial cable had to get a gender converter to change it from male to female. Cable came with drivers and installed no problems on System (listed as Prolific USB-to-serial Comm Port(Com4))Running Vista Ultimate Downloaded "Starview and Th Box Super Fix 08-04-08" from BigMaq toolbar took the following files from it "v4.03_051005" update software for Starview box and "thebox_H20071015_454eE_api.bin" firmware for Starview 2 I launch software select bin file change com port to com 4 everything is all connected and no comflicts listed. I have the starview on standby I click download process starts and then it says flash update fail retry or cancel(windows dialog box). I have also tried to update with box on/on menu screen/and also I have hit download when starview display says "on" when starting up all give the same error. Can anybody offer some advice? Also is it the right update file? Any help would be appriciated
The latest 'TheBox' firmware is thebox_H20071015_454eE_api.bin Not heard of the 'Starview and TheBox Super Fix 08-04-08' file ... Are you using the correct flashing software ... GTRom_v400 ??? Try leaving the box off, start the flash procedure, count to 3 then turn it back on ... see if that helps
used V4.00 and 4.03 loaders... Think I figured it out I bought the USB to serial lead from what I'm reading I still need the Null serial lead also(very headwrecking) gonna leave this spent way too long at this appriciate the response if anybody reads this and can offer their knowledge I would be grateful. Am I right do I also need to but serial null cable? already parted with €40 for cable and gender converter at this rate it'd prob be cheaper to bloody subscribe to NTL digital Thanks for your help
Yes you do need the NULL modem cable as well (if you are trying to flash from a laptop) ... for a cheap one see the link in my signature below.
