    I have recently purchased a Sony DVD rewriter which was bundled with Easy CD DVD 6 and some cheap DVDRs. I have a selection of avi/divx films on my hard-drive which I planned to put onto these disks so I can watch them in my DVD player.
    As a complete amateur at this, I have a few questions which I would really appreciate answers to;
    1. Do I have to convert my avi/divx files to Mpeg files if I want to burn them as DVD?
    2. Can anyone suggest a decent program/programs for a) converting files to the correct format for DVD? b) burning the file to a DVD.
    3. Nero only appears to give me an option to burn as a `mini-DVD' and not simply DVD?
    4. When I have tried to convert to Mpeg using FX, I get asked which compressor I would like to use and it lists dozens which are installed and includes an option to not compress?
    5. Is there a step-by-step guide for eejits such as myself for taking a simple avi file and putting it onto a DVDR disk that plays in a DVD player?
    Any help would be truly appreciated :(

    You need to use Nero 5.5.10.xx to burn DVD's

    You need to convert your avi to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc

    You then need to take the mpeg2 and convert to VOB (DVD) format using TMPGEnc DVD AUthor

    OK - I have all the software I need and trialled everything today. All seemed to be fine....until.....is there a way to change the screen resolution size of a downloaded avi file? It would appear that the size it is in is not compatible for a DVD file? Does this make any sense at all and can it be rectified?

    Also, I was pointed in the direction of this programme (WinMPG) which claims to convert AVI into just about anything..including DVD?

    Is this just garbage or is this a serious bit of kit that could save me hours? In theory, I could just convert my avi movies to DVD and use a DVD burning programme to put it on disk? Sounds far too easy to be true so I'm assuming that it`s not that simple??
