Can you expound a little? I mean, ok...why type of burner do you have? What type of burning software do you have? Are you making an iso with Craxtion or what program? Let me know at least these and we can figure it out. However, after I re-read your post it looks like someone gave it to you. Real fine line on piracy if you don't have the game.

you say you have a modded xbox, what chip is it? and are you trying to play a backup from a chip with a legal bios (ie cromwell) if so it wont work
after the xbox is modded the next step is the bios.
And yup can be a bad burn, also the EASIEST mistake to make is make sure , when yo umake your iso, that you create the iso with the CONTENTS of the source folder not the folder itself (ie, double click to see an open folder, and you will see the contents with a prog such as craxtion etc)
there are a few reasons backups dont work
missing files, bad burns, (recorded too fast etc etc)
Personally I would use stomp recordnow to burn, its great.

This could also be a media issue with the DVD it was written on and your XBOX hardware. Try putting the DVD in a PC and pulling the files then FTP them over to the XBOX. This works about 99% of the time.

For the Hard Drive, don't break your self. Get one on sale or with a rebate. For example, Best Buy offers (once a month) a maxtor 120gig for about $60-$70 after rebate. Any size will do for you, but you want at leat an 80gig.

Install is smooth, once done you will need to configure it. SLAYER is good and can be found at
xboxstation.com. It will do a pretty good job.

"rebate" - A promotion that allows you to save additional money on a purchase by mailing in proof of purchase and a form to the company. A good way to save!
