I've just purchased a pre-recorded concert on DVD-9. Two of my DVD players can not read the disc, "disc error". On the third DVD player, it was able to read the disc but the video are continuously vertical scrolling upward even when I put it in pause. I could heard the audio. I even use decrytor and dvd shrink and nero to create a backup. The backup have the same problem. I'm able the play the disc on my PC without any problem. Here is the info on the disc: - NTSC rating is ALL - DVD-9 - MPEG2 - DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 SURROUND - 4:3
download dvdinfopro (free) and run the disc thru it's media info check and paste results here, that's presuming you mean it's a copied disc

Does this mean the disc is a DVD-R? If it is then it explains why I'm having problem playing back. All my DVD players plays DVD+R. Is there a way to burn it to a DVD+R disc?
Creaky, I burnt to a DVD+R disc using decrytor, dvd shrink and Nero. The backup copy have the same problem.
Is it a issue of compatibility with my DVD players or there is a defect in the disc?? All my DVD players range from 1 - 3 years old.
right, do the dvdinfo thing with the +R copy, also paste last section of Nero log MINUS serial number which usually begins with '1A21'. logfile is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log

true, i'm just used to perservering with copying from discs. just copied from 2 that were giving me grief, took a while, and managed it over both my drives in the end..
I know what you mean. Have you ever used ISObuster? I have it but only used it once. It's supposed to be really good at getting past errors.

@fasfrank - nope, have heard of it but not used it, i'll go get it now otherwise i'll forget. cheers. @kncheung - maybe you player(s) don't like rewriteable dvd's. it still says blank disc, however the data area start/end has some stuff described there, maybe the disc hasn't been 'finalised' ?
Hmm...I burnt DVDs onto the same brand DVD+RW in the past and was able to play on all my DVD players. O.k. I think we spent too much time on this issue. I'll just bring the DVD back to the store and get my money back. But just for my knowledge base do all DVD players can play DVD-9? Generally, can one burnt to a DVD+R from a DVD-R using Decrpytor, DVD shrink and Nero? Thanks to all for your help and knowledge.
PCs can play a lot of things, .avi mpeg, iso, etc. That is usually a job that is taken care of by your media player software. A DVD player on the other hand requires that the video be in a DVD-Video compliant format. All the required files have to be there, in the correct format for it to work. The burning programs we use will generally check for this and give you a warning if what you are trying to burn will result in a non-compliant DVD. Because a non DVD-Video compliant video can play in a PC, the information can still be accessed. With a little work and the right programs, it's possible to salvage the video and turn it into a playable DVD. Not always though!
I didn't get any warning or error messages when I burned a backup copy hmm... Is it complicated to salvage the video? What software is required? Not that I'm going to salvage this specific DVD, but it's nice to know for the future. I'm still learning all these... By the way what is DVD-9? Is it a North American format?
