You need iTunes, or one of the methods described here:

WMP unfortunately won't work though. If you decide to use iTUnes and your music is already MP3 make sure iTunes doesn't convert all your music to AAC - one it will take a long time, and two, it will degrade the sound quality during the conversion process.

Does that mean that all the cds i have downloaded into media player are of a better quality then if i were to convert them into itunes. Does it help if you were to get an ipod and then reload your music into itunes would the quality be better or does itunes not convert to as good a quality as media player. Also are there players out there that use media player and I heard something about microsoft coming out with its own ipod type player.

    thanks for the info

There are plenty of MP3 players that use WMP, the iPod is obviously not one of them. iTunes and WMP are about the same at converting audio from a CD, you should really use a third party ripper if your interested in good quality. I said to make sure iTunes doesn't convert your music is because if its converted twice, it will sound like absolute garbage so you want to avoid that as much as possible.

I had heard that microsoft was supposed to come out with an ipod is that true and if so do you have any idea when it is supposed to come out? Also my wife has an ipod and the sound is not very loud I mean i can turn it up all the way and it doesnt sound extremely loud. My nephew says its because of the headphones but I always thought headphones are just speakers and do not have any effect on how loud the sound would be. Is that correct. Also do you have any recommendations as to what kind of ipod is good if you dont go with an actual apple ipod. I was really thinking about the new ipod that could hold 7500 songs and also video but are there any others that will do the same thing or is there any hope that in the future you will be able to download songs to an ipod from media player. I know so many questions but thanks for the help!
