Hi, I have only recorded a few DVDs with my Panasonic recorder. I just did VHS to dvd home videos. I am now trying to Record from a Sony Handycam Video 8 camcorder from the 80's. I have an RF out cable that displayed my videos when I plugged it into the TV. Now, do I just record as if I am recording TV shows, or do I have to plug the camera into the back of the DVD recorder to record? When I plug it into the back of the dvd player I don't see any picture on the TV. Sorry if I sound like an idiot, I am really not that technical! I don't want to waste blank dvd's trying to figure this out on my own! Someone please help! Thank you.

Ok this looks like a simple problem rather then connecting the RF cable to the tv connect the cable to the RF Input on the dvd recorder. Next tune the recorder to whatever channel the camcorder outputs on (usually 3 or 4). Then IF you see the camcorder's output you may record.

However if there are more outputs you may be able to select another one for better quality.

Is this a 8mm tape camcorder? If so you may be able to use higher quality outputs for example the composite ouptut (yellow rca) but the camera may need an adapter that could be expensive. Or you could borrow another camcorder capable of playing back the tapes (with out the need to get an adapter however the tapes may only work with that camcorder to to age and being out of spec) all Hi8 and some digital 8 cameras play back the old 8mm tapes.
