help!!! reinstalling os.

    hi, is it possible to reinstall the operating system on my desktop computer using a external hard drive? i have the recovery disk,but my dvd drive has been taken out. i have a laptop so i can try to burn the recovery disk to the external hard drive. thanks for your help

    Yes if the BIOS sees it. And If your BIOS saw the HDD, just have windows install to that drive..

    ok thanks very much for your help. how can i make the BIOS see it? and would it work with a flash drive? i just got a new 2 gig. flash drive. the recovery dvd is 1.7 gig. can you walk me through the process? thanks so much

    Jeff, don't take this as an insult but if you're not very computer literate you'll have a difficult time achieving this.

    The easiest thing to do would be to use an external CD/DVD drive but before we get into all that you have to make sure your BIOS has an option to boot from a USB device.

    Can't you hook up a cheap internal DVD-drive and install the OS that way?
