I just got my first ps3. I bought it used and wanted to know how to delete the user info off the main ps3 menu. I can see the avtar and his user name but whenever I try to change anything it asks for the password. Is there any way around this. I dont want to loose my save games or my playstation store downloads...

    thanks in advance

Nope. If you don't know the person who owned the PS3 then your out of luck. When I forgot my password it asked for a security question that if answered correctly will reset your password. Whats confusing here is how are you losing your saved games and PSN downloads? Is the said user that your trying to delete yours and you just forgot your password? If its is just got to the PSN website. There's a way there that you can have your password reset by having your password recovery question answered correctly.

You should have formatted the PS3 from the beginning and you would have started fresh. The best thing you can do now is backup whatever gamesaves that aren't locked, format and then re-add your stuff back.

The best thing is to just ignore the account...I have at least 20 PSN accounts because of gamesharing, and it does not bother me any. If any of your PSN games were purchased by the last user, then you MUST keep the account, otherwise you will loose the ability to play those games.

it was an older guy who bought it for the bluray when it came out. He cant remember the password. The only thing I bought is the final fantasy 7 game. I didnt know if it was like the wii where it can be downloaded again on the same console for free or if it was only for that user.

So If I do a reformat... It will be like a fresh out of the box ps3? Will I have to re do all the system updates? Will the playstation store let me redownload ff7 for free or do I have to pay again?

If you have a separate login on it's own PSN account then yes it will be like a new PS3 ~ blank. You don't have to do any updates if your PS3 is up to date and any items you have purchased are always available for re-download an unlimited amount of times under your own PSN account (just log back into your existing account to do so).

You will just have to re-download/re-install that, any other games you purchased, any demo's, pics, videos, movies, music, game data & etc. as well! Just remember ANY gamesaves (PS1, PS2 & PS3) that are locked will NOT transfer to a USB thumb drive for backup and restoration after the format so you will lose those no matter what.

BUT YOU MUST COPY YOUR GAMESAVES MANUALLY OVER TO A USB THUMBDRIVE YOURSELF (or you will lose EVERY gamesave when you format!).

Now that I have said that there is a documented glitch that SUPPOSEDLY works to back up ALL your gamesaves (that I have NEVER tested to confirm myself...yet) but from my understanding you need either a big thumbdrive or an external HDD.

    This is the process ~

Not exactly SDF ~ any items you have purchased are always available for re-download an unlimited amount of times under your own PSN account. you can SHARE on up to 5 PS3's but each one of those PS3's can re-download it an unlimited amount of times ;)

Trophies are saved on PSN. But you have to be sure to do a sync before you format so any miscellaneous ones don't get "missed".

Most games can be shared 5 times (not all games).

Its accounts that are shared, not games, you share your account with 4 other people.
