    I bought the "WinTV-PVR-500MCE"

    http://www.provantage.com/wintv-pvr-500mce~22095147.htm

I have a dish network box.. and it uses the smartcard to store the channels I think.

anyways.. I have the rca cables hooked up to my tv.. and then I used the s-video to plug into the tv tuner.. I also have the Dell MC remote kit.

I set that up as well.. but I don't quite understand the IR cables.. I think I'm suppose to plug it into the back of the remote kit box and then put the sensor over top of my satellite box sensor.. but my box is really old, and I can't even get it to stick to the box.. cause it's slanted where the sensor is.. (beside the green light) in the picture I posted.. am I suppose to open the box and put it inside somehow?

My remote won't change the channels but I just put that it was working regardless in the setup wizard and continued.. I can see video and everything fine on my computer just like it's showing on my tv.. but I can't change channels.. so I need help setting the rest of it up.. I'm not sure if I need to set it up differently with a splitter.. or buy something else.

Ya, Just tape the litte thing overtop the set top box sensor it dont really matter aslong as its overtop it. YOU Dont need to open up your box!! You do though need to setup your set top box ir codes. You can do this by selecting the model of your box or it it is not there you can do it maually with your original settop box remote. Also does the ir thing light up when you try to change channles?

    Hope this helps.

thanks.. I used scotch tape to make it stay for good ahah.

the remote is working now.. and it's changing fine from the guide on the computer.

I ended up using the coax cable to put in my tv.. and using the s-video cable and the red/yellow rca cables to put in the sound.. but the sound is staticy as hell.. coming through my computer.. is there anyway I can fix that.

well restarting solves a lot of problems.. especially after installing/setting something up.. and I hadn't done that yet.

so I restarted and the audio is fine now.. ahah

now, I just need to figure out how to watch a different channel while I'm recording one.. I got a dual tv tuner.. but I was reading somewhere.. and I think I have to have two satellite receiver top boxes as well ?
