Help shrinking a 3gb Mpeg2 file

    I have several mpeg2 captures of tv shows that I want to upload to a friend. They are 3gb and I want to shrink them to around 150mb each if possible. I have tried several programs and I keep getting only audio.
    I have tried simpledivx, autogk with no luck. I have read several guides but I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.

    Open them in windows movie maker.
    Save.
