Hi I posted earlier looking for prog`s etc , I since found some , but a whole new set of problems arises . Most tutorials I`ve read for a great # of programs , are for conversion off the DvD drive , but I only have the raw files on my hard drive . But even when I `am able choose files from my harddrive , Ie in Dvdx , the program hangs , literally all evening , I went to bed & it was still hanging in the morn , I cant get this program to work . Next I tried DVD2SVCD , I followed the guides to a tee . But when all is said & done I`m left with a bin cue of about 194 mb , & only about 9 minutes of the dvd . Where you can choose to add or delete vobs etc , all 4 vobs show there , but in movie length window it shows as only 9 min 53 seconds . This happens with any dvd files I have , not just a select one . The files all check & play fine in dvd shrink as well . I`d like to keep chapters and menus if possible , but I`ll settle for a vcd if thats simpler. Can I ask for some help please . I`m frustrated here
You Should NEVER work with Vob files that are still on the DVD Drive, It is a Good way to wear out your Drive and in most cases it won"t work anyways because the Files on a DVD are Encrypted.... OK...Here are Some Simple Basic Instructions on how to Encode your Vob files to VCD... First you will need a couple Of Programs, One is DVD2AVI and the Other is "Tmpgenc".... You can get DVD2AVI here : http://arbor.ee.ntu.edu.tw/~jackei/dvd2avi/DVD2AVI_1.77.3.zip #1)So First rip your DVD to your Hard drive useing something like "SmartRipper" or "DVD Decryptor".. #2)Then download DVD2AVI and Extract the Files to a Folder and go into the Folder and Copy and Paste the "DVD2AVI.vfp" File from the DVD2AVI folder into the TMPGEnc Install Directory .... #3) Now Run DVD2AVI and go to "File" to "open" and navigate to the Folder were the DVD was Ripped to and Choose the First VOB file and the rest should Load automaticly, and you should Now be able to see the Movie in the Programs Window... #4) Now we have to do some Settings in DVD2AVI... A)If you are Working with a NTSC DVD then first go to "Video" to "Field Operation" and set it to "Forced Film" , If you are a doing a PAL DVD then you can skip this setting... B)Now under "Video" go to "YUV->RGB" and set it to "TV Scale"... C)Now go to "Audio" to "Track Number" and set it to "Track #1" now under audio go to "OutPut method" and set it to "Decode to Wav(AC3,LPCM)" now under "Audio" go to "Dolby Digital" and set it to "Dolby Surround DownMix".... D) and now go to "Help" and make sure that "Vfapi Pligin" is selected.... #5) Now go to "File" to "Save Project" and give the Project File and Name and save it ..... #6) in a Few Minutes you will Have a File with a ".d2v" extention and a "wav" audio file... #7-A) Now Run Tmpgenc and the WiZard will pop up and there will Be 5 steps to do before it will encode your File.. B)On the First step you choose the Format you will be encodeing to ,If you are Doing a NTSC VCD then Choose the "NTSC Film" template and if you are Doing Pal then choose the "Pal" template and then Click "Next".. C) On step 2 you Just Load in your Source Files , For the Video Load in the ".d2v" file , and for the Audio load in the ".wav" file and then click "Next"... D)on step 3 you don"t need to do anything so just Click "Next" and on step 4 you don"t need to do anything either so Just Click "Next" again ,You might get a warning saying the the file will be too big to Fit on a Single CD0R but this is OK because all movies have to go on at least 2 CD-R"s and you can cut the VCD File in Half after encodeing so you can put it on 2 CD-R"s..... E) Here on the 5th step you choose your Output File name and directory and then just Click "OK" and it will Start encodeing to Mpeg1/VCD.... 8)After you are Finnished encodeing you will have a ".mpg" file that is too big to Fit on a CD-R so you will Need to cut it in Half...To cut the File in Half run Tmpgenc and go to "File" to "mpeg Tools" to "Merge & Cut" ,Now Load your Mpeg file into it and then select "Mpeg1 Video-CD" from the Dropdown Menu, Do NOT choose the Plain "Mpeg1" setting because this will not work Correctly... B) After Loading in your File and chooseing the correct setting from the Dropdown Menu Highlight your File in the Box and click the "Edit" Button... C) here you Choose your "Mark In" Points "[" and your "Mark Out" Points "]" to choose the section of Video you want in the First Part.. D) when you have set up the First Part to be Cut then click "OK" and then click "RUN" and in a few Minutes you will have Part one and Now Just repeat the same Procedure but do it for the second Half of the Movie.. 9) Now when you have Both Parts cut you Just Useing Nero or Some other Burning Program and burn them to CD-R"s in VCD Burning Mode.... Well I hope this Helps explain and easy way to do it...Cheers
Thanks Minion for a very informed reply - It`s now encoding in Tmpgenc , if I`m up in two hours I`ll let ya know how it all went , ok mate . Being a pessimist , well Tmpgenc is prone to many errors ,, Ie invalid pointer etc , but not due to your appreciated advice , which I appreciate . Can I still ask about the other prob`s I was getting , & can I (as simply or otherwise) , make an SVCD ( preferred with , or without chapters/menuus etc..) Cheers -
Hi again Yes it worked , but was 12 minutes short of the actual runtime of the dvd , but it`s complete , if that makes sense . What it didnt take is the stills/menus , which also have some nice soundtrack with them , but it was alot faster & smoother than Dr divx , which took all the nice audio & menus with it , but Dr divx took forever to load & over 4 hours to complete , which doesnt include conversion time in Tmpgenc , & kept getting errors , so is there a way to get those fore mentioned items with the sweet dvd2avi & Tmpgenc method you referred me to ? & what of the SVCD questions I had ? Thanks for all your help -
Yes Tmpgenc Can be Prone to errors But usually not when useing the DVD2AVI method...And No of cource you aren"t going to get the Menu"s and stills because there wouldn"t be a way to Jump from menu to menu, If you wanted to add Menu"s and Chapters this would all have to be done in the Authoring Proscess when useing a VCD/SVCD Authoring Program that supports Chapters and Menu"s...
Ok I understand now - The 12 minutes short was the menus etc...which also has some cool music with them , I believe it was Dr divx that took all the menus etc..Of course not really accessible , but they run through like video stills , but I still get the cool soundtrack , not available on the rest of the video . So what programs support this vcd/svcd authoring you speak of , & are they idiot proof ? LoL Cheers
Well One of the Simpler Programs to use would be something like "Ulead DVD Movie Factory" but to use the Actual Menu"s From the DVD you would really have to know what you are doing Because you would have to Convert the Menu"s into Jpg or Bmp Image files and then import them into the VCD authoring Program and use them as the Menu"s and they wouldn"t work the same way as the Original DVD Menu"s did because VCD doesn"t support all of the Features that DVD"s do so it would be a Fairly complex Procedure but it might be fun trying to figure it out...Cheers
Hi thanks for all your replies Sounds like a real operation , so can I ask does SVCD support chapters/menus ? & if so what programs may do that ? I tried a few , Ie: DvDx , but it would never load , it literall hung all night . Cheers
Well Yes SVCD Supports Chapters and Menu"s also and you can use the same Program I mentioned "Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.0" to do it...SVCD Supports Basicly the same Features as VCD..To get the Menu Images as Bmp or Jpeg Files so you can use them in the VCD/SVCD/DVD Authoring Program all you basicly have to do is Play the DVD in a Software DVD Player Like WinDVD and when it gets to the Menu you want to use you Just click the "Capture" Button which basily takes a Picture of the Menu for you and then you Import that Image as the Menu in the Authoring Program....If you want real DVD Features and Menu"s with there own Audio Tracks then Get a DVD Burner as I have seen them for as Low as $79...Cheers
Hi mate Cheers on the reply Funny ya mention it , I`m getting a DvD burner in the morning . Seems the way to go , I used my daughters & i`m hooked . Does nero 6 & above support DvD burning ? Cheers -
