while I use my laptop, hp nc6120, there comes error message that says "computer shut down due to ........., if it is the first time, restart your computer, if not ask support from the manufacturer". afterwards, I formatted it so as to reinstall winXP operating system. but, while I am on progress of installation, the same message appears again & again.
as to my knoelwdge, what I did earlier was, I updated BIOS by downloading the software from www.hp.com.
Hence, PLEASE, I need someone to help me stop this MESSAGE & let me install the operating system!!!!
    thank you in advance!!!

Did your computer come preinstalled with xp or vista

if its came with xp then idk what to tell you other then you might have hardware failure

if it came with vista/7 then more than likely it is like alot of vista computers that will BSOD when booting from an xp disc to prevent downgrading to xp from vista

    best of luck to you

Vista boots with a BSOD when it detects and Xp disc?? Never came across that before. Though if that is the case you can always boot a linux disc, install it and then install XP over linux. Or just use Boon and Nuke to wipe your hard drive first..

Make sure you donload the correct firmware for the BIOS, and maybe try reverting to an earlier version than the one you downloaded.

You can try downloading and installing an earlier version of the BIOS software.

Alternatively, you could take out your harddrive, slave it to a different, working, computer, and install XP on it, then replace the harddrive in your computer. That might work.
