whats up all my brother got me a dell latitude d610 notebook when i try to start it up it says this pc system is protected by a password authentication system,is tehre anyway i can get around this ??? the guy he bought it from is gone with the wind can someone help ??
are you refering to the bios? -Most likly not unless the person that you bought it of put a boot password on.
It sounds like a BIOS password. You can try Dell as the passord, they used to use that on some of their computers. For a desktop you usually remove the CMOS battery or short out a jumper, but laptops are different. You may have to contact Dell or even send it in to get it reset.
if got the manual with the laptop or can download from the net, see if there is a section about bios password.
try this link out : http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/36/42/ info on bios passwords. http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=latit_harddrive&message.id=10933 dell forum discussion saying that your problem might be a failing hard-drive. good luck.
