Hi everyone, please help, dont want to loose video clips of grandkids. i am transfering pictures/videos from an sd memory card that i use in a samsung 730 digital camera to my hp laptop. transfers fine but when i open the video files with windows media player there is only sound and no video. i also have a canon digital camera and when i transfer pic/video from sd card to laptop i can play the video clips fine. i tried opening with windows movie maker and i get the same thing, audio but no video. and under properties it shows the source file with a file type as audio. but if i look at the properties from a video clip from the canon sd memory card that was transfered to laptop it shows the source file as a video with audio. is it something with the setting on the samsung camera itself? Please help!! thanks
Nothing to do with the camera.. it is the file format.. samsung you say? Have you installed all the software that came with it on the disk.. samsung tend to use a strange video file format.. possibly ASF or .DV... There should be a media player which will handle the file format on the disk. Download vlc player.. that should be able to handle it, when it plays the file go to the menus at the top and look for view→advanced→stream and media info.. and see what codec it says the file needs. (my money is on M4S2 in an avi container..(asf or amv) place your bets)
I have a samsung and here is what you need 1. go online and do a search on google 2. search for vlc media player 3. run and install vlc media player 4. go to www.divx.com and download the divx player 5. once done the files should work. I am sorry to say though windows movie maker is crap it only converts video into the wmv format which is only read by windows movie maker so i am sorry to say you cannot convert the divx files coming from your camera to the windows movie maker format. however the steps listed below will let you play the files on your computer. time for a real movie camera i would recommend a dv camcorder at least then you will be able to use the film for dvd production.
I have both the vlc and the divx players and I recommend them both. Just thought I'd mention it. Suppose I had better go and do some work now
I would agree. I know you charrish the videos you already have but they can't shake a stick to what a real camcorder will do for you! It is $200-$300 but well worth it instead of trying to use the still camera for video also!
