Hello everyone, i am not used to the computer stuff..

My surfing is slowed, and i constantly got a pop up that says "Your computer is infected with Malware/Spyware click Yes to scan" so i click no and it keeps poping up the advertisement, so i use AVG and Kaspersky to scan my computer which few virus had been detected Virus Lop and Generic/worm and etc but once i get rid of it, i face the same problem right after i restarted my computer, my surfing speed is getting slower day by day. I even try scanning in "safe mode" but still nothing works.

And recently i dont know what happened, i didnt click any link or download anonymous program, my MSN is infected with virus, which i automatically send message to my MSN list asking them to click on a unidentified link...Can anyone tell me how can i fix the whole thing?

    Thanks inadvance.

    niruka,
I hope that I can help you with this. My time is limited, but if I can't get the job complete I'm sure another good soul here at Ad will be glad to assist me!!

You seem to have a pretty bad virus according to your HjT log.

I hope I can get your system clean the first time!!

    1. First download AVG anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

    * Once you have downloaded AVG anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    * Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
    * On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
o Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    * Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    * Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    * Under "Reports"
o Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
o Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

    2. Please download ATF Cleaner HERE.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Save it to your desktop, we will use it later.

    3. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {12343C39-0AC4-4CEA-A300-A1D957846603} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhg.dll

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {41DAD2B6-3795-470B-807A-52A76AC669E8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnli.dll (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    O23 - Service: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 (AVP) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0\avp.exe" -r (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    4. Reboot into safe mode by restarting your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

    5. Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

    * Click Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>Windows Explorer
    * Navigate to the listed files, then right-click to select them and click delete:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winzzc32.dll<==if this file is not located in this location, we need to make sure it is not on your machine. Search for the file name using the search function searching all files and folders and delete it when/if found

    6. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

    7. IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:

    * Launch AVG-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    * Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    * AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    * If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    * Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    * Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    * Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

    9. Post the results of the AVG report scan, a new HJT log and let me know how your system is running....

<font color = "red">niruka, Please read and download both files before following the instructions! If you need to unzip them you may download winzip from here: Link You will only need the evaluation version of the program.</color>

You still have the viruses on your machine. Let's try another step to see if we can get rid of it.

1st download VundoFix Link and follow these instructions.

    * Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
    * This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
    * After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
    * Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
    * You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at. It should look like this:

    * At this point press enter one time.
    * Next you will see:

    * Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
    * At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhg.dll

    * Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    * Next you will see:

    * Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
    * At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghkmp.dll

    * Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    * The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
    * In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {12343C39-0AC4-4CEA-A300-A1D957846603} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhg.dll

    * After you have fixed this items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
    * Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
    * As your machine reboots press F8 to enter into safe mode again.

    * Now, Click on SmitfraudFix Linkand a dos style window will open. Choose number 2 from the list of numbers and hit enter. Once that's done then you will be asked if you would like it to also clean the registry, select Yes "Y", hit enter, and then reboot.

We may get lucky and it will do the trick!! Go ahead and post another HjT log after you finish and let me see if we got rid of everything. We may need to run a couple of additional software to make sure your machine is cleaned well. I just don't want to dive into that right now. You have two different programs to run. If you need to you may highlight this post and press Ctrl + C to copy then open Notepad or MS Word and press Ctrl + V to paste it. I would then print the instructions for you to reference as you work.

Hello, i downloaded the VundoFix_V6.5.0.zip and VundoFix 7 through the link you gave me, but i can't find the file you mentioned KillVundo.bat
As in the Zip file, there is only 1 file which is VundoFix V6.5.0.exe nothing else...When i click the VundoFix, i only got 2 buttons to click, 1 is Scan for Vundo and another Remove Vundo/Fix Vundo... What should i do next?

    Thanks :)

Just click option 2. It has been awhile since I've used the program, and have not looked at the newer version of it.

Also download CCleaner Link. The web page tells you how to use it. It will allow you to backup your registry before cleaning it, but it is a very useful program for your registry. After you run the other two programs run CCleaner.

Option 2 ? which option 2? Should i skip the Vundo program? Cause when i open the Vundo program, i only got 2 buttons which is
    Scan or Fix. :)

I tried locating both files and place it on the VundoFix (safe mode), but when i click fix, it just hanged there without progress, even when i did it on normal mode, its still the same..

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhg.dll

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ghkmp.dll

I just downloaded the new VundoFix. You will need to press scan for Vundo then if it finds it select Remove Vundo.

Hello all, :), i tried the VundoFix and i found the file mentioned, but when i click FixVundo, nothing happened, only loading .........but it didnt delete or fix it...I leave it there for 3 hours and it remains there.....I will check out QuikDraw website and do those steps, at the moment, my biggest problem is messenger where it automatically send a link to my list...And the internet explorer pop up which is very annoying and slowing things down. I even tried reinstalling the IE, it didnt work.

    Thanks

    niruka,
QuikDraw has pointed something out to me that I did not even notice at first. Do the free scan at Uniblue and I'm sure that it will say that you are infected. The Symantec site has removal instructions. When you get to the area about editing your registry you will need to be very careful and do exactly as stated. A wrong move in the registry without system backup or a registry backup may be dangerous.

Maybe download ERUNT from here: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
Be sure to use it. I would not turn on the auto update feature just yet, but be sure to have a backup of your registry available if you need it. After your machine is running again you may remove the backup that was originally made, optimize your registry and turn on the auto update feature. Be sure to read how to use it, or print the directions so you may refer to them if you need to.

    Edit:
You mentioned that the virus could not be removed. Where you in safe mode when you ran the program? If you were not it may have been active. If you were in safe mode and it was active then you may need to download and use a little free utility. EndItAll2 will allow you to stop any running process. Remember that many processes are system processes and need to run. You may download that guy here: http://www.docsdownloads.com/enditall-1.htm

    Keep me posted.

There are a few things that we still need to do. By the way, there is SP3 available for XP now!

    1) I just noticed that you have two anti-virus on your machine. Are you paying for Kaspersky? If you are then you need to remove AVG 8. If it is a trial version then you need to remove Kaspersky unless you intend to buy it. I for one will say that it is one of the best anti-virus available. However, if you do not own it or intend to buy it having two AV's on your machine will cause conflicts.

    2) Your HijackThis is an older version and it is located in the wrong place. You should create a folder for it on the C: drive and then you may create a shortcut to your desktop. Your HjT will create logs in its folder each time you run it. Download the new version from here: HijackThis Link

Steps: first open my computer and double click the C: drive. Then select File -> new folder and name it HjT. Download the file to that location. It should look like this C:\HjT\HijackThis.exe After you do that then you may right click the HijackThis.exe file and tell it to create a shortcut. In many cases I tell people to rename the exe file to HjT in case a program tries to hide from HijackThis.exe.

    3) You need to be logged in as the administrator of the machine while you are doing the cleaning. This includes when I tell you to go into safe mode. The administrator has more privileges and will allow you to do things that an ordinary user account will not allow.

    4) I need you to download the new version of VundoFix 7.0. There are instructions on the page I will link you to in how to use it. Make sure that you are under Administrator when you download these files. Here is the link: VundoFix 7.0

    5) you ran a report of SmitFraudFix, but you did not use the clean feature. I need you to clean the machine so that we may get rid of some of the junk in your computer.

    6) Download CCleaner from here: CCleaner Link Make sure to run the registry cleaner as well as the standard cleaner. It will ask you if you would like to make a backup of the registry and you may. Just make a folder on your desktop, because you will not really need it, but it is a safety feature.

    7) To be on the safe side and to not have any programs running be in safe mode under the Administrator account when you run all programs. SmitFraudFix will run under a command prompt but it is very simple to use. When it asks you if you would like to clean the registry select "Y" for yes. It is important to get your registry clean.

There are a couple of listings in your system32 file that I am not familiar with, and could not find anything about them on the Internet. CCleaner and SmitFraudFix will get rid of these guys when you do the clean.

After you have run all of these programs please post a new HjT log for me to view. I will have some additional programs for you to run as well. I will also need to know if you are using Windows Firewall or not. I will suggest a nice firewall for you. Granted, it will be a little annoying at first because of the pop-ups, but read them and tell it to allow or not allow. We also need to get you on one anti-virus. Keep me up to date.

If QuickDraw makes a post please listen to him. He is very knowledgeable and probably sees things that I don't even notice, or is more familiar with ways to get rid of problems.

Hello, sorry for the late reply....Still the problem is VundoFix, according to the instruction, it says

Put a check next to *Run VundoFix as a task. <<<<Where? As once i click the VundoFix.exe, all i got is the program loading then gave me only 2 option "Scan for Vundo" and "Fix Vundo" and ofcourse "paypal donate"
I downloaded Version 7, and the screen shot is showing version 4.2.16, and yes the Version 4.2.16 have the option but not Version 7.

Last time i scanned using VundoFix and found some infection but when i clicked FixVundo, it just remains there for 3hours.

    - You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click *OK*
    - When VundoFix re-opens, click the *Scan for Vundo* button.

    Any advice?

    Anyway thanks for replying.

Here is the VundoFix site with download of version 7 and instructions for use. The program has gone through changes but it looks like a two button process. http://vundofix.atribune.org/

I would recommend that you remove all current versions of VundoFix off your machine before you install the version 7. Again, make sure that you are logged on as administrator.

:) hello, i have scanned my computer with VundoFix, i got 5 infected files, and once i click FixVundo, still nothing happens, so i do it manually by following the address of the infected files and removing it 1 by 1......Hope that will not screw things up :D but i fail to find 2 of the files..as it does not exist or its already been deleted...

So below is my new HJT log after using VundoFix, Smit and CCleaner.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, i use VundoFix for a scan again and i got 1 more infected file....Since VundoFix can't delete it for me (like always :D), i do it manually again, but this time, the file wont let me delete, once i tried to delete it once, it went hiding (by just disappearing), but the infected file is still there..cause i scan with Vundo and it was found again....its a .dll file, what i can do to get rid of the file?

    Thanks once again :)

Have you taken the time to get rid of one of the Anti-Virus? You need to keep only one of them. If you have two they may conflict with each other. Very Important for an AV to not give false positives.

They are all dll files to help programs run, but I could not find any kind of match for them which leads me to believe that they could be related to the issue at hand. Maybe someone else will be familiar with them.

You have both google and yahoo toolbars. I would remove one of them. I would also make sure that you have the latest version of Java and get rid of the older versions. It is always good to do this when you get the latest updates for Java.

Make sure that this item is not in the computer. This is part of the Vundo file.

When you ran CCleaner did you run the registry part of the cleaner? Make sure that you did. When looking for that one file I mentioned you may need to change the view to view all files and folders. Do this by clicking Tools->Folder Options-> Click the tab View and select show hidden files and folders. Be sure to change this back when you are finished.

Like I said before, if you need to remove the old versions of VundoFix before installing and running it again please do so. Personally I'm hoping that you do not find that file.

    Hello, :)

Actually, both Kaspersky and AVG is paid....so which should i let go?Cause i got the keys for both, so uninstalling it would not be a problem...And yes i did delete all other VundoFix version.. I ran CCleaner including the registry part....

And problem is...i dont find the "Folder option" in my control panel, i heard some virus can disable it ?

    Any solutions?

    Thanks once again

The decision on which AV to keep is yours. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/software/antivirus-software/index.html As with that article describes Kaspersky is one of the best AV's out there, but AVG Pro is also very nice. I would keep Kaspersky and get rid of AVG.

Folder options is difficult to find in the control pannel. You are using XP. On the explorer window is where you select Tools, then Folder Option, then click the View tab and select, "view all files and folders"

Look for that file I asked you to look for, get rid of one of the AV's, update the other AV (Kaspersky would be what I would keep), then boot in safe mode run Kaspersky, then CCleaner.

Reboot to normal mode and download Spybot Search & Destroy Link and get all of the updates, then run it.

After you do all of that post another HjT log.
