I've just copied my first DVD using the afterdawn notes and bought Nero 5.5 to burn the VCD. All works as described BUT I can't get the VCD to play on my Sony DVD player - its only about 6 months old and plays other VCDs that I've got. The mpeg plays ok on the pc so i've got that far without probs. Any thoughts anyone?

Sony doesn't recognize most of the CDR brands, you need to use CDRWs.

try burning @ a max speed of x4 as some standalones have trouble reading vcd's burned faster. Is it possible the disc you copied from has been burned at a higher speed than x4 and has had a knock-on effect

I have same problem but when i ask some friend
    i got the answer
(whit best regards to SETARIP-digital video overlord)

"The Sony standalone DVD players are probably the MOST finicky of all brands/models (one of my DVD players is a Sony) regarding which brands of CD-Rs it will recognize.

In addition to virtually ANY brand of R/W CDs. it WILL accept Princo (as both a brand and a custom manufacturer, in which case you have to look for "PRINCO" printed around the hub), Prime Peripherals, and ArtMedia - and that's about it!"

i use Princo and all is OK :))
