Here's a very simple question - I just can't remember how to do this. How do I manually set my drive's default write speed? I remember doing it once...I thought I right clicked on the drive and went into properties, but the option doesn't seem to be there. I find when I write at speeds higher than 4X many DVD's don't get read very well, if at all, by my DVD player. Basically, I need to manually set my drive to write at 4X when my media is capable of more.
Hi there, What burning software are you using ? Usually the speed of burning it set by the software itself. I don't recall seeing any OS configs to say this burner will burn 4x max, regarless of the software. Most 1 click DVD copy tools do not support burn speeds, they will burn at MAX speed which is a problem. This is why most people will use software that let's you select the burn speed. Nero, DVD Decrypter, VSO CopyToDVD, VSO 1ClickDVDCopy uses the engine of CopyToDVD so I was told you can select burn speed in it. lots more apps out there...
Using nero, dvd shrink, any dvd - I seem to recall not being able to through one or more of these programs - but this was a while ago...I recently switched media, thus the need for a possible change. On a related topic, any idea why DVD's don't seem to work when I burn them on faster speeds? I have a very good home DVD player, but have tried to watch them on crappy ones also...none of them seem to play a disk that I've burnt a high speed.
Hi there, Media quality makes a lot of difference. And yes, burned too fast will/may cause problems. I have 1 good DVD player and 1 cheap one also. To get the cheap one play, I have to burn at 2x. I currently burn everthing at 2x, and all my copies play everywhere. I am getting Taiyo Yuden and I'm done burning all the medias I have. I may try 4x on those.
Yeah that sucks...I still would have bought a fast DVD burner when I purchased mine, because it was a good deal, but I wish I would have known I couldn't realistically burn at 16X (which is the burner's max speed).
I hear that.. if i really wanna watch that film, i dont mind waiting 30mins - 1hr or so.. too many coasters at 8x put me off burning that fast.
The max burn speed that everyone suggests for DVD's is 4X. Once you go above that you have a very good chance of burn errors. Some systems can handle 8X but as stated your players may have read problems. Jerry
You can manually set your drive for speed. In the start menu, goto my computer, then right click on your drive and click properties. Click on the recording tab. You'll see it's probably set to fastest. You can change it there. Instruction assumes you have WinXP.
tried it...it only let me select the speed for cd burning with DLA. I'm pretty sure I found how to do this before.
On Decrypter you set the max write speed on the first screen when it opens, just below the upper right window. Shrink doesn't actually do a burn, so you don't set burn speed on it. Don't know about Nero - never use it.
