Hey guys! Thank you for all I will receive at these killer forums! A few Q if you guys don't mind answering: 1)I want to make sure that the way I go about converting and burning an AVI movie to SVCD is acceptable and produces the best results possible. I follow a guide named "GaryFoolproofAVItoSVCDGuide" to the letter. Basically this is what I do: 1)check the AVI for bad frames in virtualdubMP3 2)delete the bad frames 3)save the repaired video file 4)use virtualdub to extract the audio (and save the WAV) 5)use TMPG to convert the AVI to SVCD w/ the saved WAV. 6)burn with nero espress as SVCD. Is this an acceptable way to convert/burn AVI to SVCD? Obviously I am asking this for a reason--mainly b/c I followed this guide and converted/burned an AVI of terminator 2 PAL @ 25fps to SVCD but the svcd contained bad video frames and out of sync audio on my RCA230N DVD player. 2)as I understand it, simply deleting the bad frames using virtualdubmp3 causes audio de-syncronization, so WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIX BAD FRAMES BUT MAINTAIN AUDIO SYNCRONIZATION? 3)WHEN I SELECT THE VIDEO BITRATE, SHOULD I TRY TO MAKE IT AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE? I never want to use more than 3 cdrs for a movie, so if I can manage to fit, for ex., a bitrate of 2300-2400, should I go for it? 4)I converted/burned an AVI of the matrix and it plays nicely--no bad frames, but, HOWCOME THE AUDIO GOES OUT OF SYNC FOR THE FIRST 10 SEC OR SO AFTER I FAST-FORWARD THE MOVIE? The audio returns to normal after 10 sec or so, but why is it initially out of sync when I fast forward? 5)SHOULD I SELECT AN AUDIO BITRATE OF 48 OR 44KHZ? all the best ladies and gents and thx! doa
Hi, If you have an AVI file with a Bunch of Corrupted Frames in it you should Not get Sync Problems Because V-Dub will Remove the Bad Frame but it replaces the bad frame with a copy of the Last good Frame so you don"t loose Sync..But you Can Get Sync Problems From Useing V-Dub to extract the audio to Wav so I find a More reliable way for decompressing Compressed audio in AVI files is to use a Little Tool called "Decompress.exe" it will Turn your AVI with Compressed audio into an AVI with Uncompressed Audio that you can Just load directly into Tmpgenc and encode to SVCD, If you want to try this simple tool then PM me with your E-mail address and I will send it to you...As For the Bitrate to use as Long as it is between 2000-2500kbs you should still get Pretty Good Quality ,It is a Good Idea to get a Bitrate Calculator so you can calculate the Bitrate you will need to use so that your Movie will fit on X Number of CD-R"s ,You should be able to get between 40-55 minutes on each CD-R in SVCD format and still achive Fairly good Quality as Long as your Source AVI files are of good Quality also...The SVCD specification Calls for the audio in SVCD"s to be 44100hz but most DVD Players should be able to handle it if you used 48000hz but you might want to try it first to make sure your DVD Player will Play it because 48000hz does produce Better Quality and if you ever Got a DVD Burner it would be easier for you to Back up your SVCD"s to DVD-R if the audio was 48000hz ..You can Pick up Dual Format DVD Burners Now for $99 US which is cheaper than I paid for my CD Burner 3 years ago ,Which would be a Good Investment, When I got mine I backed up my 400 movie SVCD Collection to DVD-R and was able to get 3 SVCD Movies on each DVD-R when Makeing Non-Standard DVD"s....Cheers PS: Virtual-Dub-Mp3 is a rather Old version of V-Dub and the newer versions have a Lot of Improovements, I use a Version called "Virtual-Dub-Mpeg2" that can Load Mpeg1/2/Vob files and with the AC3 Decompressor installed Can also Handle AC3 audio and Frameserve the AC3 audio ,There is also a New Plugin for Virtual dub that is in Developement that Allows you to Encode Directly to Mpeg1/2 within Virtual-Dub with Quite good Quality when encodeing Progressive Frames...Well anyways here are the Links to V-Dub-Mpeg2 and the AC3 decompressor....
